Map help
editGreetings Dr. Blofeld. I notice that several years ago, you were the creator of {{Location map Australia Sydney}} and its underlying map. I would like to create location maps for Adelaide, regional parts of South Australia and perhaps the other capital cities, and wondered if you have any advice to assist, rather than me needing to work out how from scratch. Thank you. --Scott Davis Talk 05:16, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
ScottDavis I used to create maps using a different site but it no longer exists I think so haven't for a while now. I always have trouble getting maps made directly on OSM to work. The other person you mentioned would probably be the one to help you.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:58, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

editHey there, I just wanted to leave a note of encouragement and tell you that I've very excited to see all the work you're putting into Stanley Kubrick. He's my favorite director by far. Spectre

Interesting actress
editShe was born Yang Ayli in St. Joseph, Missouri; she made her way to China and was thought to be China's Mary Pickford. She returned to the US and did some work as Olive Young, but was never the star in the US that she was in China. A 1939 photo of her shows her working in a traveling carnival sideshow; she died the next year. What I have is from IMDB and from the news stories on the backs of the 2 photos I uploaded. (The stories come in handy as credible refs--see here.) Very little information on her re: US work--there must be a lot of Chinese information about her since she was highly regarded as an actress there. We hope (talk) 16:47, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

New Tamayo Museum
editI've spent quite a bit of time researching this without very much success. Unless I am mistaken, it looks to me as if the "new museum" (if there is one) is simply an extension of the existing Museo Rufino Tamayo, Mexico City despite the fact that your stub indicates a different location. Despite considerable searching, I have not been able to find the address of any new museum in Atizapán de Zaragoza. The images all seem to be from documentation published by the architects. Furthermore, if you read the English and Spanish articles on the existing museum, you'll see that considerable extensions were completed a year or two ago. I doubt very much whether the Ingels project was completed especially as it is not mentioned here.--Ipigott (talk) 14:55, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps User:Thelmadatter has an idea?♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:11, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- Ill ask around but my search in Mexican newspapers seems to indicate that the Atizapan municpality reneged on its promise to provide a site in 2010. There are a couple of articles from 2011 saying the people involved still want the project to move forward. There is nothing about the museum opening, which would definitely appear if it had occurred. Ill keep looking.Thelmadatter (talk) 16:46, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- I would be very surprised if there is any recent information on this. I'm almost certain the project was shelved. I found that serious complaints had been lodged by the local community in Zona Esmeralda where is was going to be built. Two alternative sites were investigated but without follow-up. The available funding seems to have simply been used to make an extension to the existing building. Your own ref was from 2009.--Ipigott (talk) 16:50, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Doc, would you be interested in helpig me take this film to FA? If so, please do let me know. Ssven2 speak 2 me 10:44, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
I don't know about FA, it would need a LOT of work, and biography books of people like Heston and Brynner for more details. Ben-Hur would be a more likely one to take to FA. I might be interested in putting in a bit of work to get to GA though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:02, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Well, then Ben-Hur it is as it is also one of my favourite films and is a GA, which makes it easier for it to be taken to FA. Ssven2 speak 2 me 16:47, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Ssven2 I got it to GA! It has most of the content but i believe the prose would need work if it was ever to reach FA. Honestly I think it's best working on articles to GA status. Ten Commandments would be far from my first choice to get to FA though. I did plan on trying to get every Oscar winner up to GA, I started with The Great Ziegfeld, Wings (1927 film) and also promoted Annie Hall. I'd certainly be interested in working with somebody on that but I'm not willing to put as much time and effort into wikipedia as I used to. I also have books on Kubrick I really should be focusing on.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:53, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
I'll work on the prose. It would be great if you could just give a copyedit to the article Ben-Hur. Ssven2 speak 2 me 17:00, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
FAs take more work than that though Ssven. Do you have any experience with FAC?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:26, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Well, I have reviewed SRK's article, which is currently an FAC, and I am planning to take Rajinikanth to FA. Ssven2 speak 2 me 03:12, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks AmaryllisGardener! Well, I've ransacked google books entirely now. The remaining bulk should come from translated text on Finnish wiki from the various different articles and then finding reliable sources to back them up. Landmarks are easier but history and geology often translates poorly and difficult to really know you're getting it right. I've asked Prolog for some assistance. I can try to find something though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:56, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I too am impressed by your additions to Kajanni. Following your ping, I created a stub on Jakob Henrik Zidén whom you included in the article. I doubt however whether he and Prince Dolgorukij should have been included as the Battle of Virta bro was actually close to Iisalmi which is about 88 km further south. Don't know how the confusion arose. Perhaps you would like to fix it.--Ipigott (talk) 15:06, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I think the book was discussing Kajanni County which would account for 88km away. It's still worth mentioning though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:11, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

@Ipigott: Done, don't worry I was listening to jazz as I was doing it! The article seems really bloated though IMO and could really use condensing in parts.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:24, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. When I'm through with Roskilde, I'll do some work on the cathedral article. Strangely, although some of the tombs are covered in great detail, there's not too much about the rest of the cathedral.--Ipigott (talk) 11:44, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Just noticed they don't link to the sources in the way your other refs (e.g. on Paris) do.--Ipigott (talk) 11:48, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
You need to fill out the bibliography with citation templates and add ref=harv on the end that's why.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:50, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Nomination of Margarit Abadjiev for deletion
editA discussion is taking place as to whether the article Margarit Abadjiev is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Margarit Abadjiev until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Mr. Guye (talk) 03:15, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Mohammed Ali al-Ahwal
editThe article Mohammed Ali al-Ahwal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No evidence of notability. Subject fails WP:BASIC and WP:BLP which requires at least one reliable source. Sole cited source is a dead link. Please add content backed by in depth coverage from multiple reliable sources establishing the encyclopedic notability of the subject, or this article may be deleted.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ad Orientem (talk) 04:42, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Ad Orientem, myself and Aymatth managed to expand it that much, why couldn't you? Can't you see how damaging to the encyclopedia it would have been to delete a subject like that rather than expand it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:02, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I can't read Arabic and as I noted in the discussion on the talk page of the article, I went as far as my linguistic skills permit. I also posted a request for assistance with Arabic translation which did not seem to generate much response. I am however delighted that translations were found and the issue has been resolved. On a side note; thanks for your edits to Château. -Ad Orientem (talk) 19:35, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Gary Cooper GAN
editHello, Doctor. Would you be interested in doing a GA review for the Gary Cooper article? If not, can you recommend a good reviewer? Regards, Bede735 (talk) 12:47, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Bede735 I had actually intended working on it at some stage but you got there before me!! Will happily review within a few days. What a joy to see John Barrymore and Gary Cooper improved so much! Sometimes it seems like only Lugnuts and myself working on some of the older ones! In future though if you are working on such an actor I'd be more interested in contributing rather than reviewing.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:11, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Yangbajing Tunnel
editThe article Yangbajing Tunnel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
Yangbajing Tunnel – news, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about Places and transportation that appears to lack sufficient notability. Please see the plain-language summary of our notability guidelines.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Re: Daddy 1923 film
editIt seems to me I've seen a poster for this and must have it bookmarked somewhere :) Let me see if we have enough photos for the Robert Mitchum project and then I'll see what the old film magazines may have. ;) We hope (talk) 13:47, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- OK--first of all a check of the copyright status of the film--nothing was renewed, so anything in the way of photos, etc., can go as copyright not renewed. :) We hope (talk) 14:29, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

We hope Nice. Can you find anything on the film in any of those old magazines? BTW I think in the commons it should go in Category:1923 films rather than 1923 in film.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:13, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Let me start reading there and see what they say. Will change the category on the category...:) We hope (talk) 21:16, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Stay tuned--another search has turned up more stills and a lot on the film! :) We hope (talk) 21:48, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- I can enlarge the article quite a bit with the storyline, as there was one printed in a film magazine. The problem is that the author calls the Savellis the Gallinis in the story. This is definitely from the film because I have many more photos from it to upload. How do we resolve the issue with the names? We hope (talk) 00:28, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Japanese films
editYeah, that is on my (very long) to do list. I have to say though, in recent years, the Japanese film industry has shifted so much to producing adaptations of manga and other works, that the lists for recent years might not be that biased in that regard. Changes to Infobox Swiss town
editHello, I see you've finally snuck your IS wrapper through. You say this is per consensus, but I have to ask, where did you finally get consensus? I don't see it on the template talk page. The only discussion there is from May. Nothing in the WikiProject either. So, I ask you where is the consensus? Tobyc75 (talk) 20:36, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps Drmies would like to answer that one, although I think he has already. See the infobox talk page, consensus to convert is very clear.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:38, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- That's absurd. No discussion since May, then suddenly Drmies closes it, ignores all the arguments given against the change and just treats it like a vote because your side had a few more fans. Then declares victory and you jump on it. Absolute gaming the system.Tobyc75 (talk) 20:50, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
That's poppycock. You and the others at the Swiss project don't OWN the template. Concerns were raised about how backwards the template was years ago but nothing was ever done to improve it. There is a clear consensus for this change, you can't argue against it. Nine people supported the merge and to claim that SchroCat and Pigs on the Wing for instance are "fans" of each other or they and the others only voted because they're "fans" of me is really quite hilarious. And I left it open since May to allow wider input. It basically comes down to DON'T LIKE IT.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:54, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- Nine supporters (including PotW, who is hugely knowledgable about IBs) against one person who didn't give any good points against such a proposal? That's about as clear a consensus as you can get. Gaming the system? That's about as close to nonsense as you can get! – SchroCat (talk) 22:15, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
As the initial creator of this article, I hope you will share my concern that the only image on the article is being proposed for deletion. I took the photo myself. It is being contested on grounds of commercial IP. I am not expert in these things. Perhaps you could get involved? The editor contesting the image has been systematically contesting numerous other images of cigarette packaging. Regards --Greenmaven (talk) 21:22, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
Seems a pity yeah, but I'm not an image expert, We hope might look into it, but I know they can be pretty uptight in the commons over products. If it did get deleted I personally think you might at least claim fair use as I believe something visual in such an article (about the packets themselves) is worth 1000 words. If they're going to argue not free then there must be a way to claim use still, I'm not sure.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:29, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- Am afraid that's the case, but there's hope to use the photo as a non-free image for the article. Why not upload it here as a non-free image with a rationale explaining why the photo is needed? We hope (talk) 21:55, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you both for your time. I have to go out now. I will return to the topic later. I guess many of us only upload images occasionally and never get very good on the details. Best wishes for Christmas. --Greenmaven (talk) 22:05, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

You don't need to remind me. I looked at Cooper the other day and as far as I can see the lead is still massive and I won't be passing it until it is chopped down. The sooner it is the sooner I'll pass it. If I don't feel like reviewing Mouna Ragam at the moment I don't feel like it. There's no use in doing a review if your heart's not in it. FLC review request
editHi. Hope you're well. I was wondering if you had some time to review another filmography I've been working on. James Cameron filmography. Perhaps not everyone's favourite director but certainly one of the greats of modern cinema. Cowlibob (talk) 16:45, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Dr. Blofeld, in the review you said for the "Production" section. " Some of the sentences seem like a narrative rather than encyclopedic." Can you tell me which ones I should edit please? :) Thamizhan1994 (Appo Pesu) 09:26, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
Thamizhan1994 I thought Vensatry was going to take a good look at it. Yes, upon initial read it didn't seem as polished and a clear cut GA as some of the 60s ones I reviewed. I'll take another look at it later.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:29, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
Bit of help
editI don't suppose you could keep an eye on Ashford, Kent for a bit could you? It's been attacked by an IP adding good faith but WP:COMPETENCE prone edits without any edit summary or sources. They're not awful edits but they're not up to GA standard. I've done three reverts already and I don't fancy getting a 3RR block for New Year. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:12, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

As the person who created the above page, I thought you might be interested in offering input on proposed changes on the article talk page. John Carter (talk) 01:08, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi! I have nominated the two articles here. Template:Did you know nominations/Lumaha'i Beach, Lumaha'i River. You may like to suggest an alt hook. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 04:01, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for December 30
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Josh Hutcherson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Daily News. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
