The 50 DYK Medal edit
The 50 DYK Medal | ||
Awarded to Doug Coldwell, for 50 articles (and counting) which have been featured on the Main Page's Did you know? section. From generals to roads, from historic districts to passports, from civil war histories to classic comics. I've enjoyed reading your oeuvre—filling in the gaps wherever you find them! Mason County District Library edit
Doug - Nice MCDL article - there is an item that needs to be clarified. When the library district was created in 1994 with the merger of the Ludington City Library and the County Library in Scottville - the promise was made to maintain as much as possible 2 fully functioning library - and that neither would be consider a 'branch' of the other. So while we do talk of the Ludington 'branch' or the Scottville 'branch' - they are each fully independent libraries maintaining the same open hours. The Mason County District Library is the formal name of the administration for both libraries but each library continues to be known as either the Ludington Library or the Scottville Library. --Kumatage (talk) 13:40, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

I recently wrote this article. Can I upload this photo from Flicker and use it on the article? Does it have the appropriate copyright tags where we can use it? Will look back here for an answer, thanks. --Doug Coldwell talk 23:47, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- It's acceptable—all images license CC-BY and CC-BY-SA can be upload to Wikimedia Commons. I've uploaded this one via Flickr upload bot to Commons; it's at Image:Mail Chute.jpg. commons:Commons:Flickr images is a useful guide; the least you need to know is in the box at the top. You can easily uploaded the file via this tool. Maxim(talk) 23:57, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

I've removed the genealogical table from this article, as it is not encyclopedic content. Such level of detail is not appropriate except in rare cases such as royal/noble families. 5 article DYK edit
No problem; thanks for your message, and I'll try to take a look soon. Actually, as for the length, you're in luck because we're generally more lenient about length with multi-article hooks...I don't know a specific number, but we sometimes let people go over 200 if there are a lot of articles (although, of course, under 200 is always nice if it's possible). I've only seen one other five-article hook before, about William Wordsworth and the Lucy poems and stuff like that; I've heard stories of a 7-article hook once sometime in the past, but that was before I was on Wikipedia. —Politizer talk/contribs 14:22, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Davidson armored car 1915.png edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Davidson armored car 1915.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 22:07, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Tagged with public domain. Picture taken and published in 1915. --Doug Coldwell talk 22:15, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
5th edit
Btw, the trick was that the creator was not trying to make a hook with 8 new articles. He was merely writing a series of articles on Egyptian temples, and User:PFHLai and others brillantly put them into one hook. --BorgQueen (talk) 12:57, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for "5th" article. That's great having that many articles in one hook. I'll never be able to do that or even write up more than 5 articles at once. --Doug Coldwell talk 13:08, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
9 articles! edit
RE this: if there were a Holy Shit Barnstar, I would be giving it to you right now! —Politizer talk/contribs 20:38, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- That new hook looks fine, and as Gatoclass said, we generally ignore the 200-character rule with multi-article hooks like that, and use more of a 250- or 300-character rule. Unfortunately, I don't think I should be the one to your nomination, because one of the users who chose to comment on it is a user that I have a history with and might just try to start a fight if I make any more comments there, so for everyone's sake and for the sake of keeping things running smoothly I'm trying to avoid that one right now; someone else will probably take a look at it before long. If it starts getting late and no one has reviewed it, then I can BOLDly jump in and do it. Best, —Politizer talk/contribs 15:16, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Style manual edit
Please note: per Wikipedia:Manual of Style, Primary Sources with a capital S, is incorrect in a section heading; the correct form is Primary sources. I've taken care of this in several articles you wrote. I also changed some hyphens to ndashes when they're for ranges of pages or years or other numbers, and to mdashes when they're for parenthetical offsets. Re:Accolades edit
Appreciate the 9 accolades for today's DYK. However, for what-ever-reason you doubled up on the credits and gave them to me twice. Very busy schedule, I would guess. I believe the 9-article hook is now a record that I broke from the previous 8-article hook done by User:Gatoclass. --Doug Coldwell talk 13:17, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Merry Xmas Doug, more varied articles from the keyboard of Mr Coldwell. A library, a trademark and even a Fickle one. To cap it all a hook with numerous articles surrounding the very first automobile which I think breaks two records at least. This one is exactly the right colour. Gold. Thanks from the wiki and myself. Of the 200 is quite a nice colour too and at your rate you should have it be epiphany! Victuallers (talk) 15:21, 23 December 2008 (UTC) |
