DL Ward (1968-?) is a Lancashire-born teacher in post-industrial Britain. I am proud to live in the North of England.

About me edit

I specialise in K12 / Secondary education and have a particular interest in new media and emerging technology. I think that ICT in English schools over-emphasises "office" applications at the expense of some much more exciting stuff. I think that Linux and Apple are doing much for popularising new technology, especially as the former makes ICT cheaper for the rest of us and the latter has developed the iLife suite which makes movie editing, blogging and podcasting easier.

Although new(ish) to Wikipedia collaborations (2005), I enjoy trying to get lots of others involved at some level. I particularly like the fact that we are all contributing to our own views of the world on Wikipedia - everyone's opinion is valid even some nonsense, which does get moderated out. I hope that Wikipedia will one day become the real Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy in Douglas Adam's honour.

Wikis I have contributed to include: edit

Skelmersdale - a 1960s new town in Lancashire and place where I spent much of my formative years

George Lyon (highwayman) - local highwayman and last man hanged in Lancashire for this crime

Skellow - small village in South Yorkshire near to Doncaster and current residence

River Tawd - unusual name for Lancashire river; fond memories of disappearing water feature

Fred Thelonious Baker - world renowned jazz bassist and friend

Iain Coyle - associate from college who is occasionally seen on TV but more often behind the scenes
