The advancement of sports chiropractic on the world stage is important and should be controlled by one administrative organisation. That organisation is the Federation of International Chiropractic Sportive (FICS). The selection to international sporting events should meet minimum standards as approved by one overarching organization such as FICS. Qualification for such participation is currently proposed to be the International Diploma in Chiropractic Sport Science (ICSSD) [51]

The role of FICS at the international level is not in dispute. However, the role of FICS at the national level must be one that is carefully considerate of local variables of education, political development (of chiropractors and other competitive groups such as physiotherapists and osteopaths), funding and acceptance by the public.

"In Australia FICS is not yet recognized by the sports medicine community" "However, FICS was "officially" recognized as providing sports chiropractic at the 2005 World Games in Germany."

FICS, which has its offices in Lausanne, Switzerland, was established in 1986 and serves a similar role to the WFC in the specialized and increasingly important arena of sports chiropractic. It has coordinated postgraduate education and encouraged the greatly increased participation of chiropractors in sports medicine teams at the summer and winter Olympics and at many other national and international sporting competitions

The course is articulated with the Federation Internationale de Chiropractic du Sport (FICS) and its International Chiropractic Sports Science Diploma (ICSSD).

The FICS International Chiropractic Sports Science Diploma (ICSSD) is the minimum requirement for a chiropractor to participate as an official FICS sports chiropractor at an international sporting event. The FICS must verify to the international sport federations this minimum academic standard. Chiropractic Services at Major Games. Chiropractic services

at the Olympics have generally been arranged at the national level. This has been the case for the Beijing Olympics in August, and the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010, for which the Canadian College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences has already arranged the availability of chiropractic services for all athletes at the main treatment facilities as part of the core medical team. However FICS is also working with the IOC and its Medical Commission to ensure that properly credentialed sports chiropractors and their services remain available for athletes at all future Olympics. Other games for which FICS is organizing a sports chiropractic team for 2009 include: a) Mediterranean Games – Pescana, Italy, June 2009. Following discussions at the annual meeting the General Assembly of International Sports Federations (GAISF) held in Athens in June, the Organizing Committee and its Medical Director have asked FICS to provide sports chiropractic services for these regional games.

b) World Games – Kaohsuing, Taiwan, July 2009.
