Era are an English alternative-rock/post-rock band formed in Derby, England in 2015. The current line up consists of brothers Joseph 'Yog' Connolly (vocals, lead & rhythm guitar), Ben Connolly (lead guitar, backing vocals, drums), James Coleman (bass) and Jerry Lobb (drums, lead guitar).

Formation edit

The band were formed in early 2015 when the members, aged from 14-16, decided to form a band after their musical tastes were similar. After taking almost 3 years to choose a name, the band settled on ERA. To start, the band rehearsed in the drum room at their secondary school, aswell as hiring out a rehearsal room in their local city centre to practise in. At the start, Coleman could not play a single instrument - him and Yog's joint love of Oasis' music persuaded him to decided to learn to play the bass guitar, the only instrument that they didn't have a member for in the band.

Originally, Joseph Connolly meant for there to be 5 members in the band, with fellow musicians Macauley Hodgson and Laurence Penna on guitar and/or bass. When this didn't happen, he recruited Coleman to be the 4th member, and they decided to keep it that way.

Influences edit

J. Connolly and Coleman became friends when they realised that they both liked Oasis. Connolly states that he first got into music by listening to Oasis' songs, most notably Some Might Say. Connolly also states Nirvana, Coldplay, Keane, U2, The Script and Nickelback amongst his musical influences.
