Manchester Hall one of the few buildings that house the students of Illinois State University. It is located on East Campus along with Hewett Hall. Manchester Hall is a coed residence hall that is close to Milner Library and the Bone student Center. The building remains open throughout all of the university breaks during the academic year (also referred to as nine-month housing).

History

Manchester residence Hall was built in 1966. Manchester Hall was named after Orson Manchester, a dean from 1911 to 1928 at Illinois State University. He was also employed at University High School before becoming a dean at Illinois State. Both Manchester and Hewett Hall were recently renovated in 2008-2009. The old dining center located in the basement in between both buildings was transformed into the Julia N. Visor Center.

Vacation Operation

During the official University vacation periods, the residence halls(except for Manchester and Hewett Hall) are closed and the students must vacate the premises. Manchester and Hewett Hall open the Monday before the official opening of all the other residence halls. The two residence halls do not have to vacate the premises during any break periods.

Layout

Manchester Hall currently offers a wide variety of rooms for students. Floors 2-17 contain single and double rooms, a quad, lounge space, and type A and B suites.

One of the suites includes rooms that end in the numbers 27 (living room), 27 (bedroom), and 28 (bedroom). The other suite includes rooms that end in 04 (living room), 02 (bedroom), and 03 (bedroom). Although the bathroom is included in the suites, it is not numbered.

Amenities

Each room contains a mattress, desk, dresser, cable port, a resnet port, window covers, and a ceiling light.
