Desimodontidae (or "Desimo" for short) (born on June 6, 1974 in Risør, Norway is a musical prodigy, virtuoso, and solo musician, best known for his mastery and usage of many different instruments to create unique passages in his recordings. Desimo's most recent album Thoughtless Rampage In Our Midst featured over a track with seventeen different instruments, all played and recorded separately by him.

Biography

Early Life

Desimodontidae was born into a family with no musical background. His parents were never around. His father was a fisherman, and would leave home for several months at a time. His mother worked full-time at a factory. When Desimo was 3, he found an old theremin in the attic of his house and began to practice old sailor tunes that he had picked up from his father. By age four, he had written over 30 compositions for the theremin, which were later lost in a house fire, along with many other compositions.

Desimo continued to compose for the theremin for a few years. His parents, after noticing his interest and skill in music, decided to buy him a violin when he was 8, saying that they couldn't stand the sound of a theremin anymore. Having an already strong foundation in music theory from his extensive playing and studying of the theremin, Desimo quickly took to the violin, learning and performing works by Paganini and Bach, and writing many of his own.

When Desimo was 13, he experienced his first rock and roll concert. It was a local death metal band called Rings Of Vacuity. He was amazed at the sound of the distorted guitar, bass, drums, and the deep, dark vocals. He quickly dropped his violin and picked up an electric guitar. As with the other instruments, he quickly mastered all aspects of playing the guitar, however, he limited himself to using the guitar for mostly playing music in the style of death metal, as well as shred, however, he expanded his style greatly later in his life.

Early Band

By the time Desimo was 17, he was already a national celebrity in Norway. He played at local venues all over the country, and soon attracted attention of Angar Frode, a highly renowned Norwegian death metal drummer. He met with Desimo in early 1992. They quickly recruited a local bassist/singer named Morten Peder, and formed the band Azimuth.

The band had little success at first. This mostly due to the fact that Desimo kept it highly experimental. He would constantly be trying new instruments with the band, including sitars, dulcimers, trumpets, and even tried to incorporate a hyraulophone into some songs. Eventually, he saw that the band was going nowhere, so he quick experimenting with instruments and focused primarily on playing guitar and drums. Sometimes at the same time.

Change of Style

The band recieved widespread acceptance and fame throughout Norway's death metal scene, however, Desimo saw that this style of music wasn't appealing to a big enough audience. So, in 1995, the band had a complete make-over, taking on a new sound, more along the lines of hard rock. Desimo's catchy, but driving and powerful rifffs, mixed with his trademark 400 bps shredding on a 6-necked guitar quickly made the band a huge success. Eventually their sound reached America, where they did two tours, one in 1999, and again the following year.

The Fire

Shortly following his 2000 tour, his house in Risør was struck by lightning, and in turn, caught on fire and burned to the ground. The fire not only killed both his parents, but destroyed years and years of work in compositions that Desimo had written.
