Deon555 (talk · contribs) Hi, I've been a Wikipedian for i think since April 2006, and I have 380 edits at time of writing. I am wanting a review, basically to see how I'm going and too see if I am doing things right. I had a RfA, in early July, and sad to say, I crashed and burned :(. Since then, I have looked at Cleanup tasks, I have become active in all the IRC Channels, always looking for newbie questions at the HelpDesk, and I have (as of last night), joined VandalProof. I am hoping to reapply for RfA in December, or maybe January, and I hoper, after taking on the comments of my peers here, I will succeed. Thankyou --Deon555|talk 03:24, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

  • You seem to be doing well with reverting vandalism, but I think it would be good if you also made some non-VP assisted edits and start contributing to content. You are very enthusiastic, which is great to see, but you need to watch the tone you take with iPs (even those obviously vandalising). You are very good about taking on board other people's opinions and seem to have a very mature approach to Wikipedia. Please consider becoming involved with WP space, such as XfD, RfA etc. You're doing very well, though. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 00:48, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Addit: I am very impressed with your work on open proxies and other projects. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:37, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Yes, good attitude. Always bear in mind the effects of your edits and reverts on others. A simple explanation can go a long way, and it's worth taking the extra time. Remember to AGF as a starting point, wherever possible. Rational talk can help to get a rational response. Enjoy wiki. Follow leads from one page to the next and find out where you end up, and try things out: RFA, AFD, RCP,AN, AN/I, try the help desk and the reference desk and RFC. Then you'll find out what suits you. Keep on communicating with talk pages, and especially good article edits. Look to see how others do things: it's the best way to learn. Set your preferences to remind you to leave an edit summary, if you haven't already. That's not much of a review, I know, more suggestion, but it will help you to get where you want to be. • Your contributions are very beneficial. If you want to go for another RfA in the future, I would recommend making more main-space edits, a key thing that many RfA voters look for. --Gray Porpoise 16:37, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Yes, you will be asked why you have nearly twice as much user talk as article edits! Tyrenius 16:40, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Comment:Hi, Thanks for the comm's, basically i've been doing a lot of RC/NP Patrol, and warning vandals, also helpme's etc, and recently i've been doing the 'post-a-reply-on-your-(my)-page-as-well-as-the-other-persons-page', which unfortuanetly inflates it a little.. I'll try to get those articles up a bit. I didn't even realise that i've been here less than 6 months :o. So i'll wait till 15 September, when I'm here officially 6 months, and by then i'll hopefully have closer to 2,000 edits.. (I can't believe that when i posted this Review i only had 380 edits :o). so yeh :) wat do u think my chances would be if i were to dedicate more time to WP and Main NS, and get my edit count closer to 2000, at going for an RfA? • I was highly impressed with your assistance when I used the {{helpme}} template - keep up the great PR work! Daniel.Bryant 06:59, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
  • You need to be careful when correcting spelling - some people don't like it when you change their user page [1] or talk comments [2]. violet/riga (t) 09:40, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Comment:Hi, Thanks for the comment. I'll make sure to avoid User pages, and any page where people sign their names. If I mess up again, please, someone bring this to my attention, and I will use the "Ignore outside Article namespace". Thanks! --Deon555talkReview 09:32, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
  • You've made a great start here! I'd like to see some content heavy edits: Make some new articles (like DECv) and cite them well (the best way to make an impression on Q2 is content heavy edits!) I see you as a fine administrator here soon -- Samir धर्म 09:36, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Comment: Deon, please dont get my site deleted. I want it to prosper much like other articles.

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
As stated, I haven't really done heaps toward mainspace etc, mainly housekeeping ie clean up, and NP and RC Patrol
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Funny you should ask :P I had what I can remember to be my first conflict today. I was doing RC Patrol and saw someone, who shall remain anonymous, removed a certain part of 2006, and marked these events as minor, so they should be removed. I didn't feel these were minor, so I partly reverted the removal of these, and put back the one item I did think was important, and the user reverted my change, and removed the "minor" events. I commented on this, they replied, and we came to the conclusion that it was minor, and to leave it out. I'm proud of myself, and this other user for being able to come to an agreement, without escellating into an edit war. Thankyou--Deon555|talk 03:30, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
