FriHost edit

The users comments on the talk page do show a genuine lack of understanding of notability on Wikipedia, but that does not mean that an article needs to go through AfD, or that a speedy deletion is not warranted. An explanation on the user's talk page would suffice. There were users who were unnecessarily rude, but, on the other hand, there is no particular reason why an explanation of the deletion needs to occur on the talk page of the article rather than the user's talk page, nor why an article should be kept around just because someone slaps Template:hangon on it without making an effort to provide reasons. —Cuiviénen 02:16, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I understand why you put the article up for AfD, and it was a reasonable thing to do. I have guided User:NotsraM to the pages he or she should read to understand why the article was deleted and to (hopefully) allow him to create articles on notable subjects in the future.
My user page is essentially my own; I copied someone else's userpage a long time ago, but it's undergone so many major changes since then that the coding is unrecognizable as a copy. —Cuiviénen 02:39, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Is it possible to recover the content of the deleted FriHost page? We are attempting to create a new version of the article that complies with all the relevant Wikipedia guidelines, and we would appreciate having the original article to work from. If you can't help then that's fine. --TerrorBite 02:34, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Renaming edit

Hi, I see you are renaming some articles I just created. It's the standard on wikipedia to name the name of the country, see Germany national football team and all the other teams like this. SportsAddicted | discuss 19:33, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello Denni, first of all thanks for your message and your intention to help me. I am however an experienced Wikipedian in both the Dutch and the English wikipedia and I do know how it works. When checking out what you meant with doubling the word handball I saw that I indeed made a mistake to name handball twice in the title. This is due to an error I made when linking to the articles out of the 2006 Beach Handball World Championships article. I will change that right away after this message. I also know that in proper English it should be German national football team, but as you can see the standard on the en.wikipedia for these kind of national team articles is to name them like Germany national football team, at least in most subcategories of Category:National sports teams that is the case, indeed not in all subcategories. I personally don't mind which one to use, but I made my decision on what is most common on the en.wikipedia and I think from what I see that's the way I created them (except for the doubling words of course). Finally, I normally create larger articles than these, but I thought it was useful to at least create these stubs now that the results of the last World Championships can be added. They will be expanded in the future anyways. SportsAddicted | discuss 21:44, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I see adding "Armenia" is vandalism.

Ancient Near East edit

Hello Denni, check the history of that page. He didn't create it. It's not a copyright violation. He had just added one wikilink which I reverted. The text there was written by various wikipedians over a period of one year. --Eupator 00:24, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

I can understand that :) As for Narek, I explained why what he was doing was wrong as best as I could. I think he understood.--Eupator 00:36, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Freddie Kissoon edit

I'm adding a page on Freddie Kissoon, probably the premier columnist and political commentator in Guyana. However, it gets deleted without notice. Please do a Google search on him to see his impact on Guyana prior to deleting. Freddie began writing columns in the 70s I believe for the Catholic Standard, then for the Stabroek News, and now for Kaieteur News. He's currently a professor at the University of Guyana.

I have no connection to Mr. Kissoon. I simply believe that he is the Guyanese equivalent of some of the U.S.'s great columnists such as Maureen Dowd (who has a page in Wikipedia) In fact, proportionally more Guyanese read Freddie's column daily than Americans read Maureen Dowd.

I'm trying to build up the content on Guyana in Wikipedia. This will be a frustrating effort if pages on Guyanese personalities get instantly deleted without a discussion since most Wikipedia editors will NOT be familiar with these individuals or their impact on a small country in South America. Are there any official Guyanese editors who can be used to validate that these individuals are legitimate Guyanese personalities.

I know that it's only a stub but it's a start of building up Guyanese content. I planned on adding to it and other pages at a later date.

Oh well. I thought this would be a fun project to add content on Guyana since I spend a lot of my time focused on promoting Guyana on the web. But this is way too much negative energy.

Freddie Kissoon edit

Thanks. I'll do my research first :)

Stella Ramsaroop plus help request edit

I'll research and let you know soon. BTW, could you look at Forbes Burnham entry for me. Burnham is a former President of Guyana and is disliked by many. His previous entry was extremely not NPOV. I made an attempt to edit the article and include only non-biased statements. Please read the previous version then my version to see if you feel that it needs more work. I did not remove any of the dispute tags since I do not believe I have the authority to do so (I'm not sure what the policy is there). Thanks for your help. Roopster 00:45, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

BTW on Kaieteur News edit

I've made a request to the owner and editor for some historical information on the newspaper which I will add soon along with other data I've been gathering. It is the leading daily in Guyana but I cannot find any data to support that statement.

Innosense edit

May I ask why the group was deleted? It was definitely notable as several pages now link to it. -WarthogDemon 02:13, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey -- at Warthog's request, I recreated the article. The prior AFD was over a year old and the current article had somewhat more content, most importantly a statement that the group was signed to RCA Records (which itself indicates some notability). The article certainly needs expansion and I will advise Warthog of that. I wouldn't argue with a second AFD, but I don't think a speedy g4 is appropriate at this point. Thanks, NawlinWiki 02:36, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Rumourdely edit

hi thank you for editing at rumourdely. we edited it to what we understand neologism could mean - additionally our edit is the truth we did use the word in a blog post and thinking like you that its mispelt we checked it on google and found where it is indeed used and with that spelling on some forums but has no dictionary entry. so then we decided to do another blog post on when does a word become a word and so we decided to open a wikipedia entry and invite our readers to edit the entry too if they knew and we could find the words origin and source and maybe get the word recognized etc. it the word doesnt meet wikipedia standards or what we have done violates wikipedia standards then by all means please delete the entry. 7 Shot Screamers edit

Apparently the article for the 7 Shot Screamers was hastily deleted as soon as I created it. I joined Wikipedia for the sole purpose of creating an article for them. I know the article was in it's infancy, but there's no room for improvment if the article doesn't exist anymore. Please tell me your reasons for deletion. The 7 Shots deserve an article on Wikipedia. I consider them to be the most important band in St. Louis, and should be documented.

7 Shots UPDATE edit

Fair enough, but now I've lost all the previous material I've written for the 7 Shots. How do I get that back? Secondly, am I supposed to write this article on Word or something before I upload it to Wikipedia? Isn't an article supposed to evolve on this website before it's completed?

7 Shots UPDATE... again edit

Thank you.

Just to be clear, this band has gone on national tours, released 3 albums, has been reported in the Riverfront Times (a st. louis alternative media newspaper), and is important to the st. louis music scene, so they deserve an article. I'll add this to the talk page on the 7 shots article as well so I can have the time needed to create a good article.

It's just an intro, it's going to be built upon itself. There's nothing wrong with it.

Why did I move the info on this article?

It does not yet warrant much of an article, but all articles start small. I had the choice of deleting the information from the original page or moving to a new. The info on the original page was not relevant to that article. Do you object? why? Rimmeraj 01:16, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

This is a guy who actually has some sort of connection to the Cherry Creek School District edit

I see you turned the "Campus Middle School" Article into a redirect page. Is it okay if I have, at the top, a link that connects to "Cherry Creek School District" instead? I mean, I have relation to a person who goes there, so I would like to have a separate article for it. It is now officially wikified, so I hope you are okay with it.

                   Thanks! -Heero

Guy from CCSD edit

Well, see, the Campus Middle School article is rather new. In fact, just few hours old. There is a lot of history and records in Campus. I just need to do some more research on them. Then, I can add more to the "Recognition" in the article. There is more information which I need to verify about CMS before I can add them, so I hope that the article stands while I research the information. As well as that, Campus Middle School really has a large history; I just need to research it. IT has some of the "Excellent Schools" awards. In fact, there was even a sixth grader who, in January 2006, scored a Perfect Score on the MAth portion of the SATs!

thanks! ---Heero Kirashami 02:55, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Guy from CCSD edit

Also, I need help. Since I am working on my first article, should I include the tidbit about the student who scored a perfect on the math SATs? Since the student generated media attention towards the school, it might allow time for me to finish my research.

thanks! ---Heero Kirashami 03:01, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

The link to the article(there are others, this is just one) would be [1]

Guy From CCSD edit

When I add more, the article will survive. However, I see that you're quick with your work. Although a lot of commentary is good, I don't necessarily think that immediately renovating a new article is the best. Starting with a short title with a small introduction is good. If it's an new article that doesn't quite yet meet Wikipedia standards, I think it's fine to add a lot of commentary and talk. If it's an old article that fails to meet standards, however, go crazy and just turn it into a redirect page. The whole point of this is...Don't be so quick to get rid of "just born" articles. Old ones that fail standards are fine, though!

This seems to be the only point that people really complain about. Other than that, help me fix random grammar mistakes!

       Thanks!---Heero Kirashami 03:25, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Campus Middle School edit

Thank you for the clarification/explaination.

Now...is there some way that we can edit the page until it is satisfactory, and save the changes, but keeping the page redirecting the the parent? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Theguy0000 (talkcontribs) 02:57, 6 December 2006 (UTC).

Guy From CCSD edit

Thanks. Now I am sure of the fact that planning and writing the web page via Word or a txt editor is a good thing to do. Not start small on the actual Wikipedia, but start small elsewhere and submit a partially wikified article. I'll remember that when and if I submit some more articles. (I did more research! Yay!)

-Thanks! --Heero Kirashami 03:42, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Also, I think that showing the fact that Campus Middle School is a Blue Ribbon School might help. The fact that it also won the mathcounts competition for state team results for four years might be nice.

Thank You! edit

Now I can work Wikipedia well!!! (Oh. mathcounts is a national competition in which there is one winner per state.) Thank you!!!

-Thanks! --Heero Kirashami 00:53, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Welcome at User talk:Aliakbar Kiani edit

I usually prefer the {{welcome}} template just because it's simpler. The problem I see with {{welcomeg}} is that it fills the page so much they may not scroll down to see what's below (actually, IME, they usually don't scroll down). I would love to see something in between, but I think there's a problem if it isn't obvious to them that there's another message beyond the welcome.

As for the other message, it's the standard {{userfied}} template. You may want to suggest changes on that one, as I believe it's pretty commonly used for this purpose. Fan-1967 01:26, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

A bishop in the Church of Norway is not notable? Either read the articles or abstain from slapping tags on such articles. I will give you a few minutes to delete the tag yourself, or I will report you to the admin board. --Leifern 22:40, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

As you requested, you have now been reported to the admin's noticeboards. I'm not doing this to change your mind, but to stop you from inflicting more damage on Wikipedia. --Leifern 22:54, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

You wrote: "By the way, I've probably written far more articles than you've deleted. So much for "harming" Wikipedia." For starters, I haven't deleted a single article, though I've voted to delete a number I could easily count on two hands. So if your proof is that you've written more than 10 articles, I don't think that's very persuasive. I realize that there is a philosophical divide between deletionists and inclusionists in Wikipedia (I belong in neither camp), but it seems to me that the deletionists are much more likely to do harm, in large part because Wikipedia is not paper. --Leifern 23:43, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Just to let you know that following the "debate" at AN/I I listed the article at AFD - here - if for no other reason than Leifern might explode if I restore the speedy tag. --Spartaz 00:24, 26 December 2006 (UTC) I shouldn't worry - it doesn't look like anyone has taken his claims seriously. I have seen more notable stuff deleted as a speedy so its all relative. --Spartaz 00:37, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Gee, Spartaz - you know I can read this, don't you? Should I rethink my assumption that your "advice" is meant to be friendly? --Leifern 00:51, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Boxing day itis edit

Would you folks let off? I choose not to use sndbox and youire on it like ants. I am seekinjg an admin to reinstate the rats in popular culture article and it dones not need to redirect to rats - a not good article. Just let off for a moment will you? SatuSuro 00:49, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Apologies here - my lack of civility arose due to edit conflict as I was trying to put hangon while you were puitting redirect. My sincerest apologies for that. SatuSuro 01:12, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Maybe - the point is if you look into the category that it has been place - I have been party to watching serious edit wars over orangutan in popular culture - and I disagree with 'popular culture' items appearing in biological entries for a start, and also it seemed that the general rat area in public culture (chicken run, charlottes web, and etc) if treated properly does not belong in the entries against the animal itslf. I also consider the standard of the articles in the animals in public culture area to be abysmal lists with very poor maintenance - just ad hoc lists - so thats why I working in this area for a start to try to remove the hopelessly us centric ad hoc lists... sigh. have a good boxing day SatuSuro 01:12, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Having double checked the section I see your point as quite valid. I might let the whole thing rest today - put an item in the talk section in rats - and see what happens. SatuSuro 01:18, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
I've moved the article to User:SatuSuro/Rats in popular culture and removed the speedy tag. Gnangarra 01:32, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Why? edit

Why have u put DD Fine Dining article up for deletion, what is wrong with it?

While DD Fine Dining may be a fine place to eat, you haven't shown how it is presently of encyclopedic relevance. I have some favorite restaurants which make good food indeed, but they will always remain anonymous except to their faithful patrons. For a restaurant or group of restaurants to be encyclopedic, they have to meet some criteria - for instance, have they ever been recognised by the culinary industry as, say, a five-star restaurant (forgive me, I don't know how or by whom restaurants are rated)? Have they invented a dish which has gone on to acclaim in the food world? Do they have notable patrons, such as royalty or show business? Do they serve a large market (MacDonald's has an article only because of its sheer volume)? Have they been written up in the press outside of London? In other words, is there anything that sets DD Fine Dining apart from the average restaurant? If so, you have some time to add it. I don't delight in putting articles up for deletion, but I want to ensure that all our articles have something important to say about their subjects. Denni talk 21:19, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the feedback, I will attempt to edit the article accordingly asap! How long do i have to do so?

DD Fine Dining edit

Hi again, i have made several changes to the DD Fine Dining article now and i was wondering if you would take a look for me and as a respected wikipedia member give me your verdict on whether the article is now acceptable for wikipedia. I have added the celebrities who have dined in any of the chains restaurants and favoured dished by customers in each of the restaurants. Regards, have a happy new year (Johnbarnes 17:15, 30 December 2006 (UTC))

DD Fine Dining edit

Thanks for the tips, the restaurants have been written up in local press such as the Lincolnshire Echo and Horncastle news and other local press respectively. I would just like to point out that the Dishes section of the article is not the whole menu just a select number of dishes which are favourites in the restaurants! Should i still delete? (Johnbarnes 21:28, 30 December 2006 (UTC)) Regards, happy new year

  • If you truly believe DD Fine Dining meets the criteria to be a Wiki article then would it be possible for you to change your verdict on the Afd discussion for dd fine dining page. This might make the other moderators/admins think twice about deleting the article if a respected member of Wikipedia, such as yourself agrees the article should remain.

Thanks, regards (Johnbarnes 03:22, 31 December 2006 (UTC))

Dissapointed edit

Hello again, i hope you had a grand new year. I logged onto wikipedia to find the DD Fine Dining article had been deleted. Nominations for deletion edit

Hi. While I certainly share your desire that Wikipedia be a place for good articles about valid subjects, I'd ask that you refrain from nominating articles for deletion while they're being actively edited. This would be particularly true in the case of newcomers.

In my opinion, it would be much better (although more work) to go to the editor's talk page and notify them of your concerns. If they're a newcomer, include the {{welcome}} template and suggest that they review all the articles at those links with regard to their article.

Please Read & Clarify edit

Hi. I do respect the fact that you are a highly intelligent and cultivated person but then i don't get why you nominate some articles for deletion with a reason like " gamecruft". It's not listed in the criteria of instant deletion. Wikipedia is made for treating subject that are relevant i'll concede that. But it' s also made to treat various subjects, and in some of them you won't find any interest. But some other people will. Then if you don't like the fact that RPGs are given articles, ask the editors to utterly cancel all the articles dealing with games and other "irrelevant" subjects to your taste. But don't do it on your own without asking and giving a reason that clearly shows that the article is just "not your taste". This is not a very mature behaviour. PS: English is NOT my mother language. So excuse the grammar and vocabulary errors if you find some. Mansemat

Strictly speaking, "gamecruft" is not a speedy deletion criteria. I think Articles for Deletion is more prudent in this case. ColourBurst 04:22, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Second banana article. edit

I noticed that you made a stub for Second banana awhile back. I prodded it some time in January under the logic of "Wikipedia not a dictionary," but an IP address removed the prod. I asked if it could be expanded to a normal article on the talk page, but there hasn't been a response so far. Do you think that an article could be written more than dictionary definition? Just curious, because thinking of nominating it for normal deletion, but obviously making a real article would be even better. SnowFire 04:42, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:800px-Habsburg Map 1547.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:800px-Habsburg Map 1547.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:50, 15 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Iamunknown 23:50, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Attack pages edit

Hi, I was just checking out something (totally unrelated) and saw some speedy deletions you did. Please don't forget for speedy deleting attack sites to use [[WP:CSD#G10]] - Attack page. or something like that. Otherwise the attack will stay in the deletion log. Like here.
