History edit

The Texas Fine Arts Association (TFAA) was formed in 1911. In 1943, Clara Driscoll donated her lakeside estate to be used as a museum space. In 1961, TFAA split into two separate entities, the Laguna Gloria Art Museum and TFAA. Then, in 1995, they purchase the longstanding building at 700 Congress and renovated it. In 1996, Laguna Gloria changed its name to Austin Museum of Art (AMOA). In 2002 TFAA changed it name to Arthouse at the Jones Center. In 2011, Arthouse at the Jones Center and the Austin Museum of Art (AMOA), formalized a merger, and by 2013, they debut under a new name: The Contemporary Austin.

In 2017, The Contemporary Austin transferred over 700 works from its legacy art collection to the Blanton Museum of Art in order to focus on its collection of outdoor sculpture.[2]
