Wild in LA is an American drama TV series which starred in 2016. The show features ten people worldwide who applied to help the less stronger people of society and get a chance to enter and stay permanently at one of California's luxurious villas where they head on many different adventures to get away from their previous life but have to do housework and jobs in return. But it isn't always that easy, or is it?

Cast edit

The show sees seven already known celebrities come into the mix, those significant being Margot Robbie and Julie Walters. Miguel Julanatá and Juliet Godwin are complete newcomers at acting and is their first acting appearances. Joséphine Jobert, who joined Death in Paradise the year before, is also in the series after managing to find a balance between the Carribbean and Los Angeles.

Robbie appears in the first four seasons before departing for personal reasons although she signed up for five years. Julanatá appears in the first two seasons before he and another cast member Jamie Flatters decided not to return for the third season in 2018 which was abrupt and strange to fans. In 2020, he was offered the role of Sancho Perth in hugely popular Spanish then upcoming movie "Don't Call Me Angel" and a week later being offered to play Ben in Mr. Bean: The Animated Series. He returned with Flatters in the seventh season in 2022. Godwin features in the first three seasons before being absent for the fourth and then returning for the fifth before leaving once more. Her famous role in the show helped her get the role of Bree Cameron in Home and Away. For season 10, 3 new cast members were introduced and former characters reprised their roles for the tenth anniversary.

Wild in LA cast and characters edit

Pia Hampton edit

She is one of the most popular character throughout the entire show. Nobody expected her to be in the then-new series and it was extremely unexpected when she appeared as the one of the lead characters. In the first season, Pia developed a crush for another lead character, Jasper Parker (played by Patrick O'Connor). At the end of the second season after multiple conflicts, Jasper dumped her after the kidnapping and disappearances of two very favourite characters. Midway through the third season, her father has a heart attack and she considers moving back to Australia after her recent horrible time in the residential villa. However, Manzia Swallow (Julie Walters) convinces her to stay to try and get her and Jasper back together but was unsuccessful. During the fourth season, her character didn't have significant development other than bonding more with Evin Ahmad's character Karla Joven as friends. In the fifth season, she was involved in a bomb stunt that was meant to assassinate the owner of the villa, but ended up exploding whe she was running away from the blast. Her character landed in a coma. Robbie quit her role as Pia in July 2020 publicly and fans wondered what would happen to her character repeatedly with new theories day by day.

In 2023, her character was expected to return for the season the following year after Jasper Parker was told she woke up from her coma. In season 9, Margot Robbie reprised her role as Pia and returned to the villa, fixing her relationship with Jasper and staying until the eleventh season for a new journey with Jasper after finding out she got the role in a huge upcoming film. The news of Robbo's passing, along with Carter's, was finally mentioned to her and visited their graves during her return scenes heartbroken.

Robbo López edit

Miguel Julanatá's character was one of the most loved characters on the show in the first two seasons and was a newcomer to acting with two other cast members as well. In the first season, he develops a close friendship with mainly Jamie Flatters's character Carter Caddell. Robbie's character Pia also sees him as a younger brother to her after her step brother's passing a month prior to the first series. At the end of the first season, his sister was announced to be getting engaged and he left for half an episode for the wedding, which viewers saw. In the second season, he and Carter kissed in a daring challenge by Valentina Bloom. They remained best friends and didn't speak of the moment again. Robbo finds out his grandmother died and Carter tells him he is always there for him. In the fifth episode and the semi-final, Carter left to go for a walk in a phenomenal sunset and go out to collect his grandmother's dog, Tango, from a shop she accidentally left him at. He invites Robbo to come along. When walking down the street, they are followed by a mysterious vehicle as Carter pushes Robbo into a locker to protect him and locks him inside. Carter is kidnapped while a shop owner finds Robbo several hours later. He is taken to hospital as the residents are made known of the situation before Robbo recovers and says Carter is missing. In the finale episode, Robbo thinks he has a lead and finds him when he realises it was a passerby. Emotionally unstable and upset, he decides to leave the villa.

In 2022, Julanatá reprised his role as Robbo to finally face his fears and come back to the place he left his belongings and memories in. While on a holiday in Spain, he notices suspicious people talking as one holds the same exact blue scarf Carter used to where. He abruptly leaves the group to chase after them as Khosi Ngema's character Kaya decides to follow him. He confronts them with a tennis bat when Kaya lands into danger and chases after her. They take her into the same mysterious vehicle from the second season and Robbo, this time having a choice, jumps on the back quietly and follows. They hold her at gunpoint and decide to take her to the human trafficking side of the base they are at. Robbo follows and confronts them about Carter before finding out he is dead. Just as one of the people are about to grab Kaya and take her away, Robbo makes a risky move and tackles one of the men in the background and takes the gun to shoot the person who killed his best friend. He manages to shoot him as Kaya throws him over the edge of the cliff side. As Robbo goes to make sure Kaya is okay and retrieve the blue scarf, he is shot from behind twice in the back as Kaya dodges the bullets. Robbo, holding Carter's blue scarf, dies in Kaya's arms as the police and their friends arrive at the scene. His funeral took place off-screen in the same episode he died in, also the final episode. Kaya decided not to attend and Manzia wasn't able to convince her like she manages to help people to come. A picture resembling him and Carter ends the episode.

Contestants each series edit

It was confirmed there would be ten contestants every season, which informed the worldwide viewers the show would go on for a long time. Additional recurring and guest characters are usually in the series to support the main characters (the contestants).

Season 1 (2016) edit

When the show was confirmed in November 2015, casting details were announced to be kept a secret until the show airs in July 2016. Producers hinted in June 2016 there would be a few famous faces and new fresh faces to acting. They didn't say this when the show was announced to avoid the paparazzi trying to find out who will be in the new show.

In the first episode on the 4th July 2016, it was announced all ten contestants were Margot Robbie, Miguel Julanatá, Patrick O'Connor, Joséphine Jobert, Jamie Flatters, Evin Ahmad, Miguel Herrán, Mahesh Jadu, Juliet Godwin and Julie Walters. The first set of guest characters were introduced to the show being: Sia Hampton and Vex Hampton, Pia's parents; José Bloom, Valentina's younger brother; Pear, Pia's hometown Cat; Sissy, Manzia's granddaughter and Fabio "Fabbs" Auguste as Juliet's son.

Season 2 (2017) edit

Everyone returned for the second season of the already popular TV show that airs in America and the UK. One new cast member was introduced as a recurring character called Meena White, the postman, with her poodle Scrubs. This series was the most viewed season all together due to the finale episodes.

Season 3 (2018) edit

Miguel Julanatá and Jamie Flatters did not return and were replaced with two new cast members who were to be new housemates. This season is the second to least viewed series all together. It is the final season to feature Vex Hampton, Pia's father. Patricia Parker, Jasper's mother, made a one-off guest appearance.

Season 4 (2019) edit

Everyone returned for the fourth season. One new guest character, Eva Mangel, was introduced.

Season 5 (2020) edit

This season saw Stephanie Panozzo and Lando Norris enter the series as housemates to replace Yessin Karim and Evin Ahmad. It is the last season to feature Josephine Jobert, Mahesh Jadu and Juliet Godwin as regular characters and sees the departure of Margot Robbie as Pia and her cat Pear, played by Mr. Sparkle. This was the final season to feature Pia's mother Sia.

Season 6 (2021) edit

The season saw four new cast members introduced to the show, the largest there had ever been. Everyone else returned for this season but was the final to feature Mimi Slinger and Wendy the poodle as a recurring and main character.

Season 7 (2022) edit

Miguel Julanatá returned for this season, being in 4 out of the 6 episodes to give fans a conclusion to the shocking season 2 ending. Patrick O'Connor took a break from the series and was absent this season. This was the final season to feature Miguel Herran, Stephanie Panozzo and Khosi Ngema as regular characters and was the final season for Miguel Julanatá.

Season 8 (2023) edit

Patrick O'Connor returned to the show and three new cast members were introduced for the eighth season. Juliet Godwin's character Valentina Bloom made a cameo via facetime to Jasper Parker.

Season 9 (2024) edit

Margot Robbie's return was not announced and returned unexpectedly in the first episode after waking up from her coma. However, some fans knew she could return after the season 8 ending. Apart from Robbie's return and another exit, everyone returned. This is the last season to feature Lando Norris as a regular character.

Season 10 (2025) edit

The 10th anniversary saw almost the entire main cast from every season return and even some guest characters as guest appearances. The only cast members to not return were Jamie Flatters and Miguel Julanatá. Half of the cast permanently exited the series after the season was over.

Production edit

Before July 2016 edit

The idea came to mind from a Hangouts producer Joslyn Zittle who thought of the idea of her American show would be 'an awesome hit' to start expanding the show worldwide. Hangouts cast member Jade Ramsey said in an Instagram post she liked the idea of her friend's and eventually said there are talks with American producers 2 weeks later on a possible series. On 24th August 2015, the spin-off was greenlighted by CBN and they confirmed it was entering cast auditions and was in the works with the first half of the season 1 script written already. The following day, the BBC said they would be airing the American show one day after an each new episode airs in America. It was confirmed the series would consist of 6 episodes. News went quiet for a while until the 4th November 2015, where it was confirmed the shooting location would be in LA; though there were rumours beforehand when seeing multiple film crew at the scenes. One week before the show's premiere, María Pedraza was confirmed to play Valentina Bloom, after leaving hit Spanish netflix show Elite. The rest of the cast was announced in the premiere episode to 'excite' all their new coming fans.

2016 to present edit

The show was almost immediately renewed for a second season at CBN and in the UK for the BBC. Filming began in September 2016 for a 'summery second season'. The season would be earlier than the first season's original air date and would air in April 2017. Two further seasons, 3 and 4, were commissioned a week after season 2 ended.

The fifth season was greenlit 1 month later in September 2019. Filming began in November 2019. Due to a huge storm throughout LA, filming was postponed 5 days after filming commenced. On day 4, Margot Robbie was filming a scene in rainy conditions and where the wind was slowly getting stronger and more rapid. The filming crew said to film two more scenes after Robbie's and they would postponed rest of production until the storm had mostly passed. However, during her scene, an enormous tropical tree branch fell just behind Robbie, seconds away from what could have been fatal. She was shaken by the event as filming equipment was lost or damaged when the winds got worse and the situation turned into an emergency evacuation. 1 week later, filming resumed. The show wrapped up production at the end of January 2020, 2 months before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Struggles towards the series edit

In late 2016, a new rising actor who was originally set to play Julanatá's character Robbo Lopez, originally called Joe Lopez, died in a car accident which led to disruption to filming scheduled a week later. His role was recast and the character's first name changed to Robbo.

Controversy arose in 2017 that Godwin's character was racist in one sentence which supposed to be 'light-hearted'. The sentence was later removed after much negative publicity.

At the end of the second season in August 2017, fans were startled when two famous characters unexpectedly left the series, that being Miguel Julanatá and Jamie Flatters. It was never explained why they left and decided not to return but fans said the least they should have had was to be told they were leaving or that there would be a scary shock to prepare them. People came up with their own theories to why they left although everyone was conflicted about the whole situation still. In 2022, Julanatá gave light to the explanation saying that the workplace was becoming toxic from certain staff and that there was 'dark' situations going on off-screen the public didn't know about involving him and Jamie Flatters which lead them to both quit. Other cast members reportedly suffered the same but stayed on the show in hope it would all change because of how amazing the setting and show is. When Flatters persuaded Julanatá to quit with him and telling it to the production team, they said they would suspend the people and crew involved, but that wasn't enough to keep both of them in the show. He never spoke about the situation again to the public.

In 2020, filming for the sixth season was postponed for seven weeks before returning to production due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In late 2021, it was confirmed Julanatá would be returning to the show after his extremely abrupt exit. However, in December 2021 towards halfway through filming, he was severely hospitalised after suspected food poisoning and was in a serious condition. Fortunately, Julanatá recovered and filming resumed 2 weeks later. This series started a week later than every other season had done. He appeared in the seventh season as a housemate again. However, this was his final season.
