I am a German/Australian geoscientist and Adjunct Research Fellow at the Griffith University Brisbane in Australia. Recent research includes a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Australian School of Petroleum/ CO2CRC in the field of Carbon Capture and Storage see http://www.adelaide.edu.au/directory/david.haberlah. Previous work over the past years include PhD research for CRCLEME at the University of Adelaide, the H.U.N.E. at the Humboldt University in Berlin, and ACACIA at the University of Cologne.
I initiated most Wikipedia entries on the the Arab Manasir tribe at the Fourth Cataract of the River Nile in Sudan, including one on the Manasir, their homeland Dar al-Manasir now submerged by the Merowe Dam hydropower project, the Material Culture of the Manasir, the Date Cultivation in Dar al-Manasir, and the Mansuri poet Ibrahim 'Ali Salman.
At present, I am interested in automated mineralogy and petrography solutions such as QEMSCAN and Mineral Liberation Analyzer and their numerous applications in O&G, mineral exploration, and Environmental Mineralogy such as in dust provenancing studies.
In 2011 I presented my research at the following conferences: - "Recent advances in the textural quantification of commercially important clay minerals in subsurface applications" at the European Clay Conference – EUROCLAY 2011 Turkey, 26 June – 01 July 2011, Antalya, Turkey. - "Loess and floods: late Pleistocene fine-grained valley-fill deposits in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia" - XVIII INQUA-Congress 21-27 July 2011 in Bern, Switzerland. - "SEM-EDS based particle-by-particle characterisation of a large Australian dust storm" - XVIII INQUA-Congress 21-27 July 2011 in Bern, Switzerland. - "Petrological reconstruction of the subsurface based on PDC drill cuttings: an advanced rock typing approach" - 10th International Congress for Applied Mineralogy (ICAM), Trondheim, Norway, see proceedings for conference paper p.275-283 - "SEM-EDS based protocol for subsurface drilling mineral identification and petrological classification" - 10th International Congress for Applied Mineralogy (ICAM), Trondheim, Norway, see proceedings for conference paper p.265-273 - "Assessing and monitoring geological storage of CO2 using automated petrography analysis" - DOE's Carbon Storage Program Infrastructure Annual Review Meeting, Pittsburgh, PA, November 15-17, 2011
