In 1836, he wrote 'Traditions of Perth, containing sketches of the manners and customs of the the Inhabitants and notices of public occurrences'.[5]

In March 1835, the Milford Nursery got a specimen of Cytisus bracteolatus (now known as Genista stenopetala) which was grown in a conservatory to flower.[6]

He was an 'Associate of the Linnean Society of London' (ALS). mentioned in [7] Died Dec 22 Mr George Penny ALS, late partner with Mr William Young of the Milford Nursery. He was well known as one of the best practical botanists and propagators in the neighbourhood of London. He was particularly excelled in a knowledge of herbaceous plants, as his articles in the earlier volumes of this magazine and the Catalogue of Herbaceous Plants in the Epsom Nursery, which was prepared by him, abundantly prove. He had been slightly indisposed for 3 or 4 months previous to his death, and at last dropsical symptoms appeared. Obituary in

[8] Obituary Died on the 22 of Dropsey, Mr George Penny of the Milford Botanical and Floricultural Nursery, near Godalming, Surrey. As a successful cultivator of plants, the name of Penny will stand high in the records of floriculture. The lovers of splendid plants are indebted to Mr P, as being the first cultivate of the magnificient Statice arborca Which was transmitted to the Milford Nursery by Philip B. Webb from the Canary Islands.
