For many years, he was Chief Scientific Officer at the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew , working as a research botanist, and as editor of Curtis' Botanical Magazine .

In March 2002 the publication reverted to its original title (with a New Series suffix) during the editorship of botanist and author Christopher Grey-Wilson.[1]

Christopher Grey-Wilson has recently retired as Editor of the Alpine Garden Society after twenty-one years. Before that, from 1968-1989, he was a Principal Scientific Officer at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. He has travelled widely in the mountains of Europe and Asia, in particular, and as has written many books and articles over the years; Clematis, Cyclamen, Dionysia, as well as guides to European alpine plants, Mediterranean flowers, the flowers of western China and poppies. He was awarded a VMH by the Royal Horticultural Society in 2007 for ‘outstanding service to horticulture’.[3]

Christopher Gray-Wilson has been the Editor of the Alpine Garden Society since 1990, and is also a freelance horticultural writer and photographer. For many years he was a Principal Scientific Officer at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, working as a Research Botanist, and as Editor of Curtis' Botanical Magazine. He has been on a number of major botanical expeditions in pursuit of the mountain floras of Europe and Asia, particularly those of the Himalaya and southwest China.[4]

Christopher Grey-Wilson was a botanist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew for 22 years. He has edited Curtis's Botanical Magazine and The Plantsman in the past, and today The Alpine Gardener. He is the author of numerous books including Guide to the Flowers of Western China and The Rock Garden Plant Primer, and has been awarded five gold medals by the Royal Horticultural Society. In 2007 he was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's highest accolade, a Victoria Medal of Honour (VMH).[5]
