Gadget-Bot Productions is an independent company based in Los Angeles, California.[1]

Gadget-Bot Productions develops visual art and creative design solutions for other companies through key art, marketing illustrations, technical drawings and other services. Titles that Gadget-Bot has worked on include Pacific Rim, Fantastic 4, Jurassic World, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Ender’s Game.[2]

Major companies that Gadget-Bot Productions has worked with include Fox, Universal, Netflix, Activision and Paramount. The company was founded in 2011 by Peggy Chung and Robert Simons to meet the industry need for design and original intellectual property.[1] Robert Simons is a filmmaker, creative director and concept designer.[3] Peggy Chung is a freelance illustrator and concept designer based in Los Angeles, California.[4]

Peggy and Robert were both still completing their college education when they founded Gadget-Bot Productions.[5] Peggy and Robert studied together at ArtCenter College of Design. Their specialization was in industrial design and entertainment design. After college, Robert worked with Michael Bay on the Transformers series while Peggy worked with Guillermo Del Torro on Pacific Rim.[1]

While in college, Robert was in contact with Ben Procter about his portfolio for months before being offered his first film job on the movie Ender’s Game.[5]

Early Years (From 2011-2016)

2011-2016 was a time of growth and learning for Gadget-Bot Studios. Their intellectual property project Momentum was a major roadblock the company faced.[5]

Momentum was a teaser trailer funded through Kickstarter. It was a collaboration between Gadget-Bot Productions and Mark Yang, the lead vehicle designer at Paramount Pictures.7 While it had a significant amount of manpower the story lacked development: this resulted in a visually stunning project that lacked depth. In addition, money was continually poured into the project just to ensure sustainability. This was not feasible for a small company. Projects from the studio continued to have the same visual appeal but lacked world-building that developed the films into something greater.

From this experience the company motto of

“Get comfortable with being uncomfortable” was born and still holds true to the foundations.[5]

Middle Years (2017-2021)

Gadget-Bot Productions released its first game in 2017. The Kaidro Virtual Reality Experience was developed through a collaboration between Gadget-Bot Productions and Alienware, Oculus and HTC Vive. Players experienced what a cadet at the Union of Arms would feel in virtual reality.  The games walking system was novel to immersive technology at the time. The game was released to audiences at Siggraph, E3 and San Diego Comic Con. Four years later, Gadget-bot productions developed the game into a full intellectual property, Kaidro the Awakening. It debuted in 2021 on the WEBTOONS platform.6

The intellectual property Kaidro the Awakening expanded to a printed manga, PvPvE arena game and animation. It explores fantasy, technology and spirituality.8

Present Day

Gadget-bot Production now has over a decade of experience providing 3D art and concept designs to the entertainment industry. The company went on to partner on projects like Apex Legends, Valorant, Call of Duty and Battle Angel: Aliya. Kaidro evolved into a separate company also founded by Peggy Chung and Robert Simons. The company works solely on intellectual property development and storytelling. Mediums explored by this company include comic books, animation and video games. The company also partnered with Odesza.  The mission of the company is to create “cutting-edge concept designs, illustrations, and 3D art for various sectors of the entertainment industry.” Their mission is based off the that storytelling is the heart of entertainment. This reflects the original growth and development of Gadget-Bot Productions. 9

Gadget-Bot Production developed from its period of growth and their modern beliefs and visions reflect that change. The core belief states that “quality and attention to detail stands above all else.” Its vision statement is “that story is the nucleus in which every other piece of the production enhances and revolves around.” 10 From these experiences, they developed partnerships with Rhythm and Hues, Red 5, Sony Animation, Universal Studios, Gearbox, Prologue, and Activision’s Treyarch. The most recent film contributions include HBO’s Westworld and Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World. Contributions to the game industry include Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 by Activision and Borderlands 2 by Gearbox.10 In the media, Gadget-Bot Productions partnered with Scott Robertson.10  Scott Robertson is the artist behind the How to Paint and How to Draw series published by Design Studio Press. 11 Gadget-Bot collaborated on How to Render: the fundamentals of light, shadow and reflectivity. They also worked on the books Nuthin’ But Mech and Nuthin’ But Mech 2. 10
