The Primacy of Positivity

edit

Dr Sharp's most important work in the field of positive psychology is The Primacy of Positivity, which explores the link between happiness and the achievement of personal goals.

This paper argues that happiness and other positive emotions increase the ease in which one is able to achieve his or her goals. As such, his psychological methods focus heavily on helping one to achieve and promote happiness, in order to then achieve specific goals. [1]

Practical applications of this theory include managing eating disorders, as depicted in The House of Food Obsessives, a documentary which explores and tracks 5 people with various eating disorders, and how positive psychology was used to help complement their treatment. [2]
