Titus followed his father Vespasian as Roman emperor in 79. He died after only two years of reign, being followed by his brother Domitian in 81.

During his reign, governor Gnaeus Julius Agricola of Britain continued his campaign in expanding the Roman Empire, conquering lands of the Novantae, Votadini, Damnonii and the Venicones. He also contained previously conquered areas.

Pseudo-Nero Terentius Maximus challenged his claim to the throne in Asia.
