Hostilian was named emperor by the senate after the death of his father Decius at the Battle of Abrittus. However, the Roman Danube armies opted for Trebonianus Gallus. Trebonius Gallus decided to prevent a civil war and accepted the 13 year old Hostilian as his co-emperor. Hostilian died from the plague after a few months of rule.
