Constantine I defeated Ascaric and Merogais in 307 and fed them to the lions in the amphitheatre of Augusta Treverorum. Afterwards he campaigned against the Alamanni.

Civil Wars of the Tetrarchy (306–324)

In the meanwhile, Severus invaded Italia Suburbicaria (southern Italy), from his base in Italia Annonaria (northern Italy). He besieged Rome. The troops of Severus changed allegiance to their old commander Maximian, co-emperor with his son Maxentius and Severus fled to Ravenna.

Maximian invaded Italia Annonaria and besieged Ravenna. Severus made a deal with him. He surrendered and Maximian and Maxentius would spare his life.

Galerius invaded Italy, and had a hard time fighting of the skilled defense of Maximian. When Maximian started to be successful in bribing the troops of Galerius, Galerius retreated. Severus was killed.
