Mirko Miočić (23 July 1956 – 15 May 2017) was a Croatian television personality, known for his success at Croatian TV quiz shows. Born in Rtina, Croatia, he started taking part in quiz shows in high school, taking second place in 1972. In 1983 he won the Kviskoteka game show and was invited in the show's hall of fame,[1] and won at several other quiz shows afterwards,[2] but he gained the most recognition for his involvement in the Croatian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.[1] When using the "phone a friend" lifeline, many contestants would choose to summon Miočić, and almost always receive the correct answer, which ultimately led Croatian Radiotelevision to institute a new rule forbidding the same person to be phoned more than three times in a season.[3] Miočić himself had little success as a Millionaire contestant. He qualified for the show several times, passing the "fastest finger" phase only once and taking home 32,000 Croatian kuna (€4,300), which was dwarfed by the gifts he received from the contestants he helped.[4] In 2013, Miočić was hired as a chaser for the Croatian version of The Chase, and stayed on until March 2016, when he was hospitalised. He died of diabetes complications in Zadar in 2017.
