Tier III Hockey

It comes down to league reputation. Just like when organizations used to field multiple Jr. B teams in various levels. It will be up to the leagues and more specifically the teams themselves. If you have a reputation around the junior ranks for being a great organization, you'll be able to recruit better players. Obviously some groups are still going to use traditional set ups with the top team in one league and the 2nd team in another (e.g. EJHL and EmpJHL or AJHL and MetJHL).

KIJHL

Western Ontario Hockey League

First, I thought you'd find this interesting ... List of WOHL alumni with links to hockeydb profiles. Second, I can't find the WOHL listed anywhere. Pacific International Junior Hockey League

I went ahead and made stubs for the rest of the Pacific International Junior Hockey League teams. I don't know how long they will last without some sort of interesting facts about the teams or their alumni, but it may save the images for a while longer. IHW

Hey Devan,

I began recrafting the look of the hockey wikia, so far I added a background and a couple little things; let me know what you think. That's just a beginning, there are more changes I want to make, including a real logo (but Belfour with a Sens puck in the eye has class, lol), images in the articles background and customize various other things like the search box; I'm not too sure how to do these all yet, though.

RE:Jadger/Goderich Pirates

Don't you think we should improve the infobox then? nothing on wikipedia after all is a finished product, we should always be improving on it. Most, if not all NHL and OHL teams have a mascot, so why not have a line in the infobox for it? I'm not sure where it would be warranted in the article of many longer articles than the Goderich team, which is why I think it would be best in the infobox. After all, unless there is some importance to the mascot (say, historical event or a newsworthy kidnapping of a mascot) I dont see a section being made up in team articles.

SIJHL

Didn't mean to insult there. I know where the incorrect number of shots came from actually, it was incorrectly listed as such by the SIJHL. Not the fault of anyone on Wikipedia.

Replacement of: SIJHL Canada-US Map.png with SVG

I replaced Image:SIJHL Canada-US Map.png with Image:SIJHL Team Locations.svg, the latter being a scalable vector graphic. If there are any inaccuracies, or if any changes need to be made to the map, just let me know and I'll fix it. The other maps aren't bad, they're just out of date (as in their format and colour, not their content). GOJHL Map -- Seems to be good, anyway we could get all of "Fort Erie" on the map or shrink the text in the Key to fit inside the key box?

If you click on the image and view it by itself, that text appears as it should. The text not fitting is a problem with how the svg is rendered. It isn't an image of text, but text itself, and if you look at the graphic by itself and use ctrl and + or -, it will change the size of the text. The only things that can fix that are either making the text smaller, and requiring people to click the image to read it (which we are supposed to generally avoid, but can be difficult to achieve on maps), or we can make it a png image of the svg (something else we try to avoid, but it can be done.) I'll look into both of those later today.

I'll look into any other maps once I finish these ones. My current maps should be able to handle the US teams, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'll fix the typoes right away. :) vıdıoman (talk • contribs) 20:56, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Good job, I like them. After you do the OPJHL, if you are still interested, the Ontario Hockey League and Western Hockey League could use a map update... and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League might benefit from it. Just a thought. DMighton 20:06, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Article parameter on fairuse rationale template

Hi DMighton, I noticed that BetacommandBot is having fun with a number of your images. The images are missing the 'Article' parameter (indicating which article this images is used in). I already started filling it in at Image:Barrie Flyers Sr.JPG and Image:Camrose Kodiaks RBC 2007.JPG. Revamp templates

Devan, I am proposing changing all templates in WikiProject Ice Hockey to the "collapsible navbox" format. These templates would have a hide/minimize option, but no image in the upper right corner. You wont find those seasons from the 60s. Back in the day, the president of the AJHL got into a tiff with the rest of the league, left, and took all of the records and stats with him. The AJHL site itself didn't even have anything prior to 1969-70. I'm surprised hockeydb.com has what they do. I'll get you the three seasons from the 90s soon, probably tomorrow. Delhi Travellers

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Delhi Travellers, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. Yup, I will be updating them when the regular season completes. Kind of a tough year for the local teams though... EJHL

Hihi...thanks for your comments on the AfD...I went to try to find more resources (I keep forgetting that I can still use the online library's research system!) and I figured to start with the official website...the one on Boston Jr. Bruins goes to a link farm...I didn't want to remove it myself and make it look like I was trying to sabotage the article...I'm actually happiest when articles get fixed rather than being deleted! Port Stanley back in SOJHL?

I've heard rumours that there will a team in Port Stanley for the 09-10 SOJHL (Jr D) season. It will NOT be linked to the old Central Elgin Express team, and Pat Elliott will not have anything to do with it. Have you heard anything about this?

According to the policy for biographies of living persons, "Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons—whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." Thedford Dirty Dogs

Do you have any information if another team in WOAA history has had a regular season losing streak similar or longer than the Dogs 70 games? Frontsfan2005 (talk) 16:56, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I know it is a modern record.. no team in at least the past 11 seasons could have possibly had this long of a losing streak. In fact, in the last nine seasons only Brussels has had a winless season. The problem is... not much info prior to 1999. I've found that the K-W Record covered the league in the 1950s.... and it was pretty huge back then... but I haven't found a papers for the 90s yet. Page moves

Hey. Just thought I'd get your opinion on some page moves that I want to make, as for the most part, you have the most edits on these pages. Basically, I want to move St. Catharines Falcons Jr. B to St. Catharines Falcons (1968–), London Nationals Jr. B to London Nationals (1950–), Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. B to Sarnia Legionnaires (1969–) and Sarnia Legionnaires to Sarnia Legionnaires (1954–1970) with a disambiguation page at Sarnia Legionnaires. The reason is pretty simple. Having the Jr. B monkier in the article name implies that that is their official team name, while in reality, it is only trying to differentiate from articles that already exist at the team name. In the case of St. Catharines and London, OHA teams exists, and I would say that they are more notable being a higher level league so they should stay where they are. However, with Sarnia it's a similar level league, thus the desire to make a disambiguation page at the team name. Anyways, with most team articles on Wikipedia now being differentiated by the paranthesis/year monkier, it only makes sense to move the pages. For sure, the only reason I didn't it in the past was because we weren't sure about actual founding dates... but now we are... another one is Durham Huskies Jr. A... should be Durham Huskies (1996–2001). There are a few teams in the Major Intermediate A Hockey League and OHA Senior A Hockey League that have a similar problem. DMighton (talk) 20:55, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

AJHL

Yeah, I can work on updating the stats. I know that initially, I used T/OTL as that was how the AJHL itself did it in their media guide. They like to swap formats, it seems, as time goes on. Resolute 14:40, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

It is a format I certainly would favour. I hate rewarding failure. I would very much prefer the old W-L-T format, but c'est la vie. Personally, I find shootout wins to be as repugnant as overtime losses in the rewarding of points. Resolute 15:21, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Curling is fun... it's been a few years though. How do you think we Windsorites feel? We've been trying to chase those pesky Spitfires out of town for years... not going to their games, ignoring them, turning a blind eye to hazing incidents, turning a blind eye to Jeff Kugel (search on youtube)... and hell, we nicknamed them "The Spits"!.. and what do we get as our just reward? The #1 ranked team in the country... Damn Spitfires.... lol...

Template loop

Doing regular Wikignoming on Category:Template loop warnings I saw your page User:DMighton/BCHL Userbox. If you don't need this page any more, because the template BCHL exists now, you could nominate it for speedy deletion by putting {{db-u1}} on top. If you'd like to keep it you could fix the loop easily by moving the second and third parts to a documentation page.

1. Create User:DMighton/BCHL Userbox/Doc
2. Paste starting from <noinclude> (just leave out the words "noinclude" themselves)
3. Change the pasted text for {{documentation}}

At this rate, the trophy is probably going to end up being retired soon. Keystone Cup

I know very little about hockey so I may be missing something. I did notice that several of the teams don't have articles. But it seems to me that there should be succession boxes for the highest award in Junior B just as there is for the highest award in Junior A. Since the Sockeyes had a box for the Centennial Cup it seemed logical to me to put one for the Keystone Cup under it. I'm inclined to put it back and start putting in the others, but it won't be right now as I am headed to bed. I don't think our not having done so before is a persuasive argument in itself, unless you're saying Junior B level teams are less notable? Yngvadottir (talk) 21:00, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your response! Sounds good to me--I'd been told the difference between A and B was "level" and hadn't realized that amounted to "size of market." I agree that teams that win either championship should thus be notable enough to have pages. So what comes first? Redlinks for those that don't yet have one? I'm not sure I see why succession boxes shouldn't be there until there are articles, since there is no deadline it seems to me the creation of the articles can happen at the same time as the insertion of succession boxes on pages of teams that already have articles. So my thought is to work on both the redlinks and the infoboxes in between the other stuff I do on Wikipedia (I'm a relatively low-time contributor). I don't think I'm a good person to make the articles for the teams--as I say, I don't know much about hockey. But I have the impression redlinks are acceptable flags that an article is needed. Unless the relevant Wikiproject doesn't like them? I know some don't. Let me know if it should be done in a particular order/manner, such as if redlinks for those teams are going to be bad. Beagle

Yes, I did just want pictures of our beloved beagle on the beagle page. However, the pictures (maybe with the exception of bath time) were actually legitimate. She's an older beagle so I put a picture of her in the health section, because the section otherwise suggests that as beagles age they mostly deteriorate dramatically in health, and she is an example of a very healthy elderly dog. I put the picture of her at the bottom because it's talking about them being friendly dogs and popular because of their personalities and cute looks. Since you had a problem with that, I then tried to just put a gallery at the bottom for extra pictures. There are plenty of Wikipedia pages that implement the gallery function, and many users (like myself) come to Wikipedia looking for both information AND pictures - they are not unnecessary! Also, I am wondering why you took off the information about Brian from Family Guy and The Regal Beagle from Three's Company - not my contributions, but needlessy erased. You said they were uncited, but many of the other examples are not cited either, and with a short visit to the linked pages, you would see that the information is clearly accurate. I know that you think you are being helpful, but frankly you came off as thinking your opinion of the page is more important than mine or anyone else's, and that my wanting to put my pictures on the article was superfluous and unimportant. My "Wikipedia Police" comment reflects just that - you are a user just like me, so why should you repeatedly decide that my contributions are useless? P.S. That last "undo" wasn't even me! OJAHL and CCHL

Just wondering why you reverted my edit on those pages, they are tier II junior A leagues. There are only 3 tier 1 leagues, and they are the major juniors.

Tier I and Tier II have not existed in Ontario "officially" since 1980 when the Ontario Hockey League annexed from the Ontario Hockey Association. In 1970, Junior A was divided into Major Junior A and Tier II Junior A hockey across the country. As a case example I will speak of the OHA.... in 1980, the OHL left the OHA and voided Major Junior A status in the OHA. The NOJHL and OPJHL at that time went from being Tier II Junior A to just Junior A... the problem is, we hockey lovin' Ontarians never got the memo to stop calling it Tier II even though the leagues stopped calling themselves that. Either way though... this situation happened nationwide.

In fact, the OHA, QMJHL, and WHL stopped using the term Major Junior A a long time ago... at least officially. They just call it Major Junior. Within the OHA and Hockey Canada... they do not refer to Junior A hockey as Tier II, because the term is archaic.

Also, the term Tier I is going to be used for Junior A in the OHA in the future. The OHA is replacing Junior A, B, C, and D with Tier I, II, and III.... it is a part of a new system called tomorrow's game. If you would like, go to CCHL, click on the logo, and look at the zoomed version... it says Tier I Hockey right on it.

I know, I know... this is really confusing... and I found it shocking at first too... I thought I knew it was called "Tier II"... but it was just a bad habit that never went away and never got corrected.

For the record... the ranks across the country are:

Nation-wide:

• Major Junior (considered semi-pro by NCAA)

Quebec:

• Junior AAA (Junior A)
• Junior AA (Junior B)
• Junior A (Junior C)

Everywhere else:

• Junior A
• Junior B
• Junior C

Ontario (to be fully implemented within 2 years):

• Tier I (formerly Junior A)
• Tier II (... Junior B)
• Tier III (... Junior C)

USA:

• Junior A Tier I
• Junior A Tier II

• Junior B Tier III
• Junior C Tier III

Thanks, that's all really interesting, especially considering that the OJAHL has Junior A in it's name! Hopefully the OHF/OHA will get this information online (I haven't been able to find it). I agree completely that the term Tier II is archaic and needs to die, to help prevent conclusion. You can see here [1] that some OHL teams do still use "Major Junior A" though. I'm honestly not shocked that the Owen Sound Attack still use Major Junior A when talking about themselves. I grew up watching the Platers... I now live in Windsor and watch the Spits... but I've noticed that people in Southwestern Ontario will still call the OHL "Major Junior A" or "Junior A" from time to time... and you often have to go to lengths to explain the Tier I/Tier II divide of 1970 and then the annexation of Major Junior in 1980 if you want to talk about the CCHL or OJAHL. Most people in Southwestern Ontario seemed to have no clue that "Tier II" existed... or that there is a Junior A other than the OHL. In the 1990s when we had the Collingwood Blues, Durham Huskies, and Shelburne Wolves.... some people caught on... I think the Orangeville Crushers have helped a lot of people involved in the Midwestern Conference of the GOJHL remember that there is still Junior A in the area... but the bottom line... most people find the Major Junior/Junior A/B/C/D thing really confusing... I think that the OHA, getting away from it, is in part trying to fix this confusion... as well as fix the unbalance that was created in the mid-90s by the bloated OPJHL and MetJHL... glorified Jr. B leagues... declaring themselves Jr. A.

Some aspects of "Tomorrow's Game" are already on the net... but a lot of it deals with the dissolution of the SOJHL and reorganization of the Jr. C level... [2] This article covers the plan near the end... basically... the OHA wants to reorganize into three distinct tiers.

The OJAHL thing has a back story. They announced their name without seeking approval from the OHA early in the summer... and it was later rejected by the OHA for a couple reasons... 1) it is too similar to the league's old name. 2) it says Junior A, when they are trying to get rid of A, B, C, D... The CCHL Tier I Junior Hockey name was cleared first with the OHA, then announced... that is why it was announced so late in the summer. The problem is... we were a month into the season already... with one league with no name... which is ugly... so it sounds like the OHA just let it slide for the remainder of the season... I wouldn't expect that name to be too permanent unless the OHA changes its mind on "Tomorrow's Game".

Keep in mind... across Canada... these leagues are still technically Junior A... but... in their own branch... just like with the QJAAAHL being called Jr. AAA... the CCHL and OJAHL are supposed to be called Tier I... at least in the future they are. For all intents and purposes... they are still Jr. A... but in the Ontario structure that is supposed to come into play... they will be called Tier I Hockey. Yeah, I'll be updating the stats. I figure I'll do it after each round of the playoffs for the teams that get eliminated. On my Ice Hockey Wiki I've got a couple really good ones... but they both have kinda shied away from Wikipedia for various reasons... Yannzgob, HockeyAl, and Fanofpucks... all very knowledgeable, but just not comfortable with some of the wikipedia notability rules for the most part. HockeyAl seems to be writing the bible on the MJHL right now on IHW... I am hoping he will bring a lot of it over here when he is done... Fanofpucks is a Senior Hockey History God. But, he struggles with wiki-writing.... charts, templates confuse him and stuff... otherwise... I've never seen so much info from one person other than maybe Flibirigit... I have the page on my watchlist now. He is blocked for the legal threats and any account he used from the same IP will also get blocked automatically. So he should be shut down for now. If we see more accounts coming back trying to do the same thing then I (or you) will take it to the sockpuppet investigation page and go from there. But he is clearly adding POV weasel words to that article and being disruptive. I don't necessarily think its a COI because no serious organization would let themselves look bad like that in public. Yeah I hate having to take it that far. I think I have only gone to sock puppet investigations maybe like 3 or 4 times in the 5 years I have been editing the site. 2 of them have been in the last month and were the same person. The one we were talking about a little while ago. They of course claim it wasn't them and was their nephew which is a variation on the common "It was my roomate" defence. And its a shame because they were creating alot of good articles before they went overboard. I voted keep in alot of deletion requests on their articles, yet they think I am out to get them because I disagreed with them. I think I know who you are talking about... and yeah... it is unfortunate. I've only came across it a handful of times, I've never initiated the investigation, but I did point out one super obvious case a few years ago. Exactly, especially since once you admit it, as long as you don't do it again, no one really cares. As for disputes, sometimes consensus is with you and sometimes it isn't. If I got all worked up and created a sock because people disagree with me that diacritics should be on all hockey articles, it would do more harm to my case than help. But people get too heated and then boom a blowup. People need to just learn to walk away from wikipedia for a week or whatever if they are too stressed by what is going on. Notre Dame Hounds

I was going to post this on the talk page for the article, and I guess it could eventually get moved over there - what is the reasoning behind having the Midget AAA championships on the SJHL team page for years that the SJHL team wasn't in existence? Notre Dame had and has a Midget AAA team that runs exclusive of the SJHL team. If the team wasn't playing in the SJHL, they weren't an SJHL team, and if they were playing in a Midget AAA league, they weren't a junior team (which is what that article is about). Properly, shouldn't the succession boxes for those Telus Cup wins be on the school page (or whereever the boxes for the other championships are)? The SJHL players didn't port over to the midget team, it would be like any other team that ceased to exist in a league for a while. Canada Hky (talk) 21:48, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

A little later than expected, but I'm back. You are right that the current Midget AAA team is not the same as the SJHL club... in fact... it has been my position that the Midget AAA club should be completely separate from the SJHL article... but about a month or two ago... a few users argued that the Midget AAA team, due to its last two championships should be allowed to piggyback the SJHL article for some reason... I didn't agree with them... but no real consensus was really made on the matter. Today I decided to be bold and remove the two nav boxes from 2009 and 2010... as I feel they belong on the high school's page. I left the 1980 and 1986 ones.... mostly because I'm not sure what to do with them... the original SJHL franchise folded in the 70s... and its only on there because they basically had the same ownership... but the 1986 championship team... as stated in the following Hockey Canada article is basically the same team, staff and players, as the Cent Cup winning team... they just applied as a team to get into the SJHL... and have had a team ever since... leaving a new Midget AAA team to be formed by the high school. That kind of makes sense. I see them as two different entities as well. I'll see what I can dig up on it around here, I'm sure I've seen their history books in a library in the city. To me - the same players don't mean its the same team. It just means they moved up a level, but the Midget team can't be the Jr team (if anything, they probably did it because they could no longer be a Midget team as guys were aging out). News coverage would be spotty at best... you would have to go through the stats pages and do it by hand pretty much, so any of the Calgary/Edmonton Sun, Herald or Journal would suffice. Maybe just send the AJHL an email and ask them? Resolute 22:35, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

GMHL is done, in the same style as the SIJHL map. There is a thumbnail problem that is affecting everything from the commons right now, so the image will appear "crushed", even if you use ctrl+F5 to refresh the page. If you save a version with the image was 251 pixels then revert that it seems to fix the problem but I don't want to do that for every page. Ah, That's Why it Didn't Make Sense (London Nationals)

I was wondering why the team histories were merged in the sidebar, and I prefer to think the anon. editor wasn't vandalizing, but actually trying to help thinking that the page was about the one with a longer history. Doesn't change my own POV and opinion, mind. The London Nationals of 1968 became the London Knights and the Nationals ceased to exist; as it was the same club, same city, and same building, the separate page isn't really needed. I don't disagree... I honestly do the same thing with Jr. A and below... it's an old practice (separate articles) we are trying to get rid of... please join us at this link [3] where we are discussing how to fix this. We would like to start merging all teams that didn't change towns, but changed names. There are probably a few dozen instances of this -- I can think of a few. Hey, just thought I should let you know of some new Junior 'B' news...the new franchise "Nanaimo Buccaneers" have been added to the VIJHL. "The Nanaimo Buccaneers will play their home games Thursday nights at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. The team will play in the VIJHL's North Division along with the Oceanside Generals, Comox Valley Glacier Kings and Campbell River Storm … Phil Levesque said the Buccaneers name is a nod to history, as Nanaimo had a junior B hockey team in the 1970s called the Buckaneers."

Same here! As the KIJHL is my local league, I want them to be a part of our league! What really pisses me off is that the KIJHL will allow to put new teams in big cities like the brand new teams in Kelowna, Kamloops and Penticton; which is so stupid, because almost EVERY small town team will have a better attendance record then the teams in bigger cities (like the Fernie Ghostriders and Kimberley Dynamiters (KIJHL) for example where for small towns, we get an almost packed 1200+ arena in the winter, while teams in big cities struggle to get 100). WHAT REALLY PISSES ME OFF IS, WHY THE HELL CAN'T THEY JUST PUT A TEAM IN 100 MILE HOUSE AS AN EXPANSION TEAM INSTEAD OF A RELOCATED TEAM, LIKE ALMOST THE REST OF THE BRAND NEW TEAMS IN THE KIJHL? (Sorry...a little mad...I might e-mail them an angry message soon lol) It really keeps looking like their only expanding to the West to bigger cities and they're ignoring the small cities North and East. World Junior A Challenge

Hi there, you seem to be one of the main contributors when it comes to the World Junior A Challenge article (and articles of the particular editions of this tournament). I just want to let you know I added some, in my opinion, rather important info to the main article - the fact that Russia is represented my the national u-18 squad. I'm not sure about 2006,2007 and 2008 tournaments, but the recent 3 (2009 to 2011) did feature the u-18 squad. I wasn't aware of that. Research on Russia hockey isn't easy when I can't speak or read the language. Makes sense though, now they could send the MHL-B all-stars or something... sadly, as much as I love the tournament... it is poorly covered and a little boring... it needs 8 teams, a little more TSN coverage, and a little adversity... It also has to be noted that for example in the Subway Super Series article Russia is named 'Russian Selects', while the FHR refers to them as the national junior (U20) squad (the SSS team is coached by the same coach as the team at the World Junior Champs, however the squad in SSS is not identical to the one in the Junior World Champs, very similar to how the squads at the Euro Hockey Tour are not identical to the ones at IHWC - both EHT and SSS are meant as tournaments to test players for the upcoming IIHF World Champs (junior or adult)).

About the fact that many materials are in Russian - sometimes Google Translate or a similar tool can help, but I understand it's not easy to find materials in other languages to use as citation material.

Also as I think about it - the Russian U18 squad at the WJAC is probably also a test squad - not featuring some players compared to the IIHF U18 Championships or/and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. I'm not sure though.

About MHL-B: It is the lower tier of MHL, however I'm not sure it is quite correct to compare them to Canadian A Junior leagues. You see - the thing is: There was only the MHL a year ago. However because they reached the team limit for the league (32 teams, they won't add any more), they had to create a new league/division, so they can accept any new teams interested in joining the league but too late to be accepted into MHL before the 32 team cap is achieved. However some of the teams that joined later and had to go to MHL-B, may be MHL worthy - that's why there's a relegation/promotion system in place. So that any new junior teams have a chance to prove they are good enough to compete at the highest level by joining MHL-B and then acquiring promotion to MHL. It will take several years before this stabilizes and the weaker teams, that are currently in MHL, get demoted to MHLB, while others get to MHL. So the MHL/MHLB system truly will be similar to the CHL(Major junior)/Junior A system. Also of note is the fact that MHL is a whole-country league - every team plays every other team from the 32-team league at least once in regular season. While MHL-B is more like Canadian's CHL or Junior A leagues - it's regional, featuring 3 divisions at the moment whose teams only play between themselves in their division.

All in all it would probably be a good idea to send a team composed of MHL-B players to the WJAC instead of 17 year olds. These older (MHLB) players would probably be more competitive than the current U18 squad, I believe. --IJK_Principle (talk) 21:11, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

It should eventually balance out like that. Canadian Jr. A back in 1970 kinda did the same thing... what happened was there were about 13 Junior "A" leagues Canada-wide... the top 3 were promoted to "Major Junior A" in their entirety (OHA, QMJHL, and WCHL)... the other 10 or so (BCJHL, AJHL, SJHL, MJHL, TBJHL, NOJHA, SOJHL, CJHL, NBJHL, MJAHL) leagues were relegated to "Tier II Junior A"... Major had teams that were too weak for their new standard of play (St-Jerome, Rosemont, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Estevan, Flin Flon) and they generally were forced down into Tier II after a couple years... and teams that were too strong for Tier II (Guelph, Belleville, Prince Albert, Red Deer) were eventually pulled up to Major to balance it out... like they say, the creme will rise to the top... nowadays it is 3 Major Junior and 10 Junior "A" leagues... but there is a clear difference between the levels 42 years later... I like that the MHL is country-wide... and the MHL-B is partitioned... but we just can't do that here... we don't have the capital. It is shocking and intriguing how the Russians have built their new system from head-to-two and I think both Hockey Canada and USA Hockey will find they have a lot to learn from them. I did not know it was like this (promotion/relegation) between major junior and junior A back then, interesting info, thanks. About capital: Well the thing is most of the MHL teams are affiliated with a KHL team and thus the KHL team finances them, so they can travel (sometimes half across the globe) for a match and so on. I understand CHL teams are not backed up by capital from NHL teams and don't have a capability like this. It also is interesting that there was never a junior league in Russia or Soviet Union, MHL is the first ever attempt to created a junior league like this. During the Soviet times and in Russia before MHL was established, the juniors played in lower tier leagues - Pervaya Liga, Vtoraya Liga and so on. Thus they played against teams with sometimes much older guys on rosters and that wasn't so great for junior player's development. Pervaya liga for example is comparable to ECHL in that it is an adult league, but Tier III. Sorry... it wasn't promotion/relegation in the European sense... it was more like periodic expansion/contraction... if you were too dominant, you'd apply for expansion up a level... if you sucked, you'd apply to be let down a level... it wasn't uniform... it was more to fit the needs of the league. So, kinda like the Swedish Elite League, minus their U-20 League... 15 year olds, if good enough, played with the men... wow.

Well... NHL teams used to own Jr. teams and even leagues... back in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s... if you signed to play for the Montreal Jr. Canadiens or any other team with that moniker like the Fort William Canadians... you had to sign something called a "C-Card"... it basically was a contract that said that if you play for our Jr. team, we own your rights if you go to the NHL. This was used until the draft was implemented. Toronto had the Toronto Marlboros... Chicago and Montreal had the rights to the entire Central Junior A Hockey League... basically... if there was a team playing for the Memorial Cup and it had a Leaf on its jersey... or a Habs logo... or any other NHL club... all the players on that team were already amateurs locked into a pro contract. An NHL team might own and fund an entire league, or they might own 20 teams across North America... I think that all ended around 1968 or 69. DMighton (talk) 00:42, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Pictou County is used for the minor hockey in Pictou County and I know that because that is where I live at.
