Cristian Faur (born 11 October 1971), is an Romanian award winning composer known for his award winning song "Let me try" performed by Luminita Anghel and Sistem at Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kiew. He worte over 200 songs for romanian artists, film music and musical theatre.

Early life edit

Cristian Faur was born from parents without musical talents. However, at the age of 9, he received a guitar as a gift from his mother, learning how to play it as a self-taught artist, which brought him prizes at folk competitions, after which he studied piano at the Popular Art School in Arad. In 1990 he arrived at the National Theater in Timişoara (he dreamed of becoming an actor), but the beautiful singer from Oradea, Luminiţa Dumitrescu, a finalist at Mamaia '89, convinced him to dedicate himself definitively to music, starting, modestly, as a soloist in the opening of concerts supported by Mirabela Dauer, The Romantics, Angela Ciochină, Marina Florea, Daniel Iordăchioae.

The first competition, in Oneşti '92, also brings him the first Trophy, with his own composition "Povestea dragostei", orchestrated by "Polymoog" from Compact (later he will collaborate in this direction with George Natsis). Encouraged by Viorel Gavrila (for whom he sings a first audition) and Titus Andrei, he performs at the Mamaia festival, where he ranks twice in the 3rd position, both in Interpretation and in Creation (with "Passer through life ta", soloist Adrian Daminescu). He is gradually establishing himself in musical life, proof that the following year, 1993, he is again laureate at the Creation, in Mamaia, with "Nu vreau sa te perdir", this time in his own interpretation. Ion Cristinoiu guides his first attempts in the realm of orchestration, and at the international festival "Bucuresti '93" (it is incomprehensible how the Capital does not have a wide-ranging competition in the field of light music!) the jury appreciates his composition "Acum cand te am gasit" sung by American Allan Roy Scott.

Professional career edit

2000s edit

Cristian Faur studied composition at the National University of Music Bucharest.

He set up a small studio, where in 1999 he elaborated the score of the children's musical "The Enchanted Whistle" by Ion Lucian, directed by Daniel Julea, after which, specializing now, he relapsed with another musical for children, "The Musketeers his donkey", so that in the same year 2002 he signed the music and lyrics of the musical "Singuri în noapte" (all staged at the "Ioan Slavici" Theatre). It was just a step towards film music ("Femeile noptţii", 2009), which he reaches through television ("Weekend magazin" show on TV Arad) and karaoke, he composes music for documentary films, television, as well as for independent productions . Since 1996, he has been seriously studying mixing and mastering techniques at studios in Düsseldorf, also giving recitals with Romanian music in Germany. He mixes his creations in Europe and begins to be awarded at home with distinctions for management and music production, but also for vocal qualities ("Best Voice"). The songs composed by Cristian Faur for the album "Unisex" (Christiana Răduţă, 2004) were mixed and mastered in Germany. He gradually became a master in making computer orchestrations for large orchestras, his meeting with Adrian Enescu being decisive.

A remarkable moment in the composer's career occurred in 2005, when his composition "Let Me Try", performed by Luminiţa Anghel si Sistem, took 3rd place in the Eurovision final in Kyiv, achieving the highest record ever achieved by Romania in the history of participation in Eurovision. Only a year before, he had almost reached the European final, placing 2nd with "Don't Be Afraid" (Elena Cirstea).

Here are some other successful compositions of his: "I can dream through your eyes" (Paula Seling), "I can't forgive you", "For a day" (Monica Anghel), "An ideal" (Nico), "Everything you want " (Malina Olinescu), "You said goodbye" (Angela Similea - arranger), "Leru-i Doamne Ler" (Mihaela Tatu, in duet with the composer) "Epilogue", "I forgot your name", "When it comes evening" (Cristiana Răduţă), "Open Your Eyes" (Ianna Novac & Distinto), "When you love me" (Daryella), "Mă lashi..." (Alissa, in duet with the composer), "Just a night", "No you are still mine" (Luminita Anghel), "My secret love", "Somewhere" (Daniela Györfi, alias Daniel@). He also collaborated a lot with Raoul, Horia Brenciu ("I can't live without you", "I love you"), Gabriel Dorobantu (the album "O picatura de amor"), Florin Mariş (the carol album "Copil ibiut"), Carmen Rădulescu "Toata iubirea ta" (Mamaia 2010), Bogdan Ioniţă ("Sha la la", "If one day"), Bliss ("I'm sorry", "Mai bun"). After two self-titled albums, Cristian Faur was also tempted by party music, with takes from the Serbian repertoire, but also with his own folk processing productions for the band Autentic ("Casa, dulce casa", "Life, life").

Cristian Faur and the Romania's Eurovision Song Contest entrant Cezar

Cristian Faur has composed over 200 works since 2001, being, as I wrote, a genuine hit-maker for Eurovision: in 2013 he ranked 13th in the European final (with "It's My Life" - Cezar Oautu), in 2015 he was one step away from winning the national selection again (3rd place, with the lyrics to Andrei Tudor's song, sung by Luminiţa Anghel, "A Million Stars"), and in 2016 he appeared in the national selection with the song "Let it shine" performed by the young artists: Cristian Prajescu, Emilian Nechifor, Teodor Manciulea and Gabriel Candea. In his home studio in Bucharest (Chartmaker), equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, dozens of great hits of the genre were finished. In 2015, he writes the arrangement for the symphony orchestra of the USA anthem "The star spangled banner", performed by Paula Seling at US Embassy Bucharest, for which he receives all the appreciation of the ambassador Hans Klemm and an invitation to a dinner with the American composer Philip Glass, organized at his residence.

2010s edit

In the winter of 2017, he was among the protagonists of the remarkable "Music ADA" competition, from Sala Radio, when he was awarded the first prize for the song "I miss your eyes", sung by the tenor Andrei Lazăr, accompanied on the piano by the composer .
