The Florissant Police Department is the primary law enforcement force inside the City of Florissant. The Chief of Police currently is William Karabas.
Chief of Police Karabas is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Karabas also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, which he received from North-East Missouri State University.
The Florissant Police Department has in total, 106 employees. Of which, 85 are sworn officers. 21 are civilians. The department is split into 3 bureaus. The first being the Bureau of Support Services, headed by Captain Sean Fagan. This bureau includes, but is not limited to the following: Dispatchers, Records Unit, IT Unit, Budgeting & Purchasing, and building
maintenance. The Bureau of Field Operations, also headed by Captain Tim Lowery includes, but is not limited to: Patrol Platoon A, Platoon B, Platoon C, Patrol Support (Includes Traffic Safety, Code Enforcement, Anti-Crime, and School Officers).The final bureau is the Bureau of Investigations (BoI), headed by Captain Randy Boden. The BoI includes all Detectives, Evidence Technicians, Correctional Officers, and F.B.I. / D.E.A. Task Force investigators.

Police Explorer Post
editThe Florissant Police Department is also home to the Police Explorer Post #9799. This program is designed to educate and involve young men and women in police operations and to interest them in law enforcement functions whether they enter the law enforcement field or not. In order to participate in this program you must be at least 14 years of age, and have completed the 8th grade, or are above 15, but have not yet reached your 21st birthday.
Officer Mike Vernon
editOn Monday May 28th, 2012, at approximately 3:00 AM the Florissant Police Department responded to reports of a burglary on the 1800 block of Banstead. While searching the area for the suspect, Officer Mike Vernon, 33 at the time. spotted the suspect, Brian Cannon Jr. who shot at him 3 times, seriously wounding Officer Vernon. While severly injured, Officer Vernon managed to give a description of the suspect, who with the help of a K9 was successfully tracked down into the back yard of a Wedgewood home. Officer Vernon was transported to Depaul Hospital, with severe injuries. The 2 bullets hit his lung, and his spinal cord. Officer Vernon, a 7 year veteran is now paralyzed, from the waist down, from the injuries he recieved that night.
