Vector-Borne Diseases Modelling Network (VBDModNet) edit

Vector-Borne Diseases Modelling Network (VBDModNet) started in April 2018 as a team of Scientists, Lecturers/Professors from different Universities and Research Institutions in Africa and Europe. VBDModNet works together with PhD students and Postdoctoral fellows interested in modelling Vector-Borne Diseases (VBDs) from basic ideas to model implementation and publication. VBDModNet provides itself as a platform for scientists interested in vector-borne diseases to deliver research output towards control and prevention of vector borne diseases (VBDs) through collaboration and partnerships. VBDModNet vision is being a network of excellence in research support on modelling VBDs towards policy implication on control and prevention. VBDModNet has three pillars: Research, Training and Publications. The main objective of this network is to develop an interdisciplinary network while integrating human and livestock models, economics and policy. This approach requires developing the expertise and relationships to enable mathematical models of the transmission dynamics of VBDs that take into account climate variability and ecology. Such models form the basis for designing surveillance, prevention and control strategies. Control of VBDs is a requirement for sustainable development, and mathematical modelling is a basis for evidence-led governance decisions.
