Overall, this excerpt presents Ross as a leading female black pop music singer who also starred in films and made frequent marks in the charts. The author creates a nice timeline of who Ross worked with, what they produced, and the awards and rankings of her popular songs. The timeline the author covers stretches from the mid 1900s to early 2000s. This excerpt also brings attention to the role of Ross's producers, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. This piece is a relevant source for my Wikipedia article because it provides a nice timeline of Ross's career in regards to her popular songs and its awards, including "I'm Coming Out". The source also meets Wikipedia's standards for a reliable source because it comes from a well established book covering 20th century popular music, which I found from a reputable database.

This website article provides excellent information on the significance of "coming out" in the gay community. The author discusses the troublesome mental process one goes through when declaring their sexual orientation and coming out to the public (i.e. one's friends and family). This piece is a very helpful source for my Wikipedia article because it presents the experience of coming out. This source will be beneficial to use in the "Influence on the Gay Community" section. It discusses how “I’m coming out” stood as an anthem for the gay community, how it is perceived, and how its queer significance is to celebrate who you are. It also meets Wikipedia's standards for a reliable source because it comes from a .org and is published by the Human Rights Campaign, which is one of the largest civil rights organizations working towards LGBT equality.

The author discusses the producer's intention to use the song to rally Ross' LGBT fans. It also discusses how the song became to be an inspiration to the LGBT community. This article provides a lot on how queer individuals became empowered and more confident. As a whole it mentions the impact of the song on other artists and queer individuals. This piece is a very helpful source for my Wikipedia article because it can be used in the sections of “Song Meaning” and “Influence on the Gay Community”. I will be able to expand much more and include the cultural impact of the song, its meaning, and the queer significance. The article also meets Wikipedia's standards for a reliable source because it comes from the reputable PBS.org
