Christian Kriegeskotte edit

Christian James Kriegeskotte (born November 4, 1980) is an American composer, orchestrator and arranger.

Education and Career edit

Kriegeskotte received his Bachelor of Fine Arts ('03) and Master of Music ('09) from Carnegie Mellon University School of Music, where he started in 1998 as an instrumental major in Highland Bagpipe.[1]. His primary instructors in piping were Pipe Major Alasdair Gillies and Pipe Major James McIntosh, MBE. Kriegeskotte received his degrees in composition. His primary instructors were Leonardo Balada, Nancy Galbraith, Fabien Levy and conductor Robert Page.

From 2003 to 2005 Kriegeskotte worked in Los Angeles as an orchestral copyist for JoAnn Kane Music Service[2]. His numerous film and television credits include Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.[3], Stephen Spielberg’s War of the Worlds[4], Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City[5], the animated feature film Robots[6], Idiocracy[7], Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory[8], The Skeleton Key[9], The Longest Yard[10], The World’s Fastest Indian[11], The Interpreter[12], Hide and Seek[13], Meet the Fockers[14], The Pacifier[15], Red Eye[16], XXX: State of the Union[17], Ice Princess[18], The Fantastic Four[19], Elektra[20] and others. Kriegeskotte additionally prepared music for seasons 16 & 17 of The Simpsons, season 4 of Family Guy[21], season 9 of King of the Hill and for the premiere season of American Dad!

Between 2014 and 2018 Kriegeskotte held several positions with The Orchard during its acquisition by Sony Music Entertainment[22]. Production credits in this role include Todavia Me Amas: Lo Mejor de Aventura[23] (which coincided with the brief 2016 reunion of Aventura[24]), the vinyl re-release of The Adventures of Bumblefoot[25], SACD reissues of multiple Xanadu Records titles in collaboration with Elemental Music[26] and the acquisition and distribution of historic record label catalogs such as Blind Pig Records[27], Hat Hut Records and Shrapnel Records[28].

An active writer, Kriegeskotte has been writing in support of the contemporary classical music community for I Care If You Listen (powered by the American Composers Forum) since 2014. Additional writing credits include album liner notes for MSR Classics[29]

Since 2021, Kriegeskotte has been an administrator for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra[30]. He has played an integral role in producing concerts with major guest artists such as Sting[31], Ben Folds[32], Renée Elise Goldsberry[33], Marie Osmond[34], Celtic Woman, John Debney and Guster.

Kriegeskotte is a voting member of the Recording Academy and an active mentor for the Academy's Grammy U program.

Kriegeskotte is a composer of instrumental music for a wide variety of ensembles from solo instruments[35] to full symphony orchestra and chorus. Kriegeskotte additionally produces experimental electronic, lo-fi and ambient music eponymously and under the pseudonym LYNXX[36]

His compositions have been performed by the Pittsburgh Symphony, GRAMMY winning ensemble[37] eighth blackbird, Ethel Quartet, Parker Quartet, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, American Composers Orchestra, New York Miniaturist Ensemble, IonSound Project, Pittsburgh Opera[38], DePaul University Wind Symphony, Heinz Chapel Choir (under the direction of Chanticleer alumnus John Goldsmith) and the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic, Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble. His work is featured in the video arcade game Nicktoons Nitro[39], produced by Raw Thrills and Nickelodeon. He has additionally provided music for online media including popular YouTube channel Scenic Fights[40] and composed the symphonic title theme for Scream Park[41], a 2013 indie horror film starring Doug Bradley and Nivek Ogre.

On November 8, 2023, the Pittsburgh Symphony premiered an entire concert of original compositions and arrangements written by Kriegeskotte[42] in collaboration with EMMY Award winning rapper, Frzy[43]. The performance was conducted by Moon Doh. On March 15, 2024, Kriegeskotte received his Carnegie Hall debut[44] after being commissioned by the New York Pops to provide several arrangements of Motown classics for their landmark performance Hitsville: Celebrating Motown.
