Zobon City Sculpture Garden
editThe Zobon City Sculpture Garden is an urban garden located in the Pudong district of Shanghai, China. The garden was completed in 2003 with landscape architectural services provided by Los Angeles-based SWA Group, and serves as the center to a multi-family residential development administered by Landmark Development Consulting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. In 2009, the sculpture garden and SWA Group received an Honor Award in the General Design Category from the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Gardens
editLike many modern landscapes created in Chinese cities, this project was developed over a parking garage, and offers changing views of the garden to individuals who ascend the stairs leading from below. The Zobon City Sculpture Garden is composed of three distinct areas, the Huang-Pu Abstraction Garden, Cognitive Garden, and Sky Garden. The first and most visible is the Abstraction Garden, which was named for and designed to echo the Huang-Pu river, the last major tributary to the Yangzhe River.
Located opposite the Abstraction Garden, the Cognitive Garden is comparatively tranquil. The garden contains colorful plants and simple water features and raked gravel in an effort to provide nearby residents with a place for relaxation and respite from the bustle of the surrounding city. The Sky garden is the largest of the three, and is surrounded on all sides by tall towers. A reflecting pond stocked with koi and surrounded by native vegetation serves as the centerpiece for this area of the garden, and mirrors the likeness of the encompassing skyline.
