Plant Nutrition Article Review edit
Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference?
This article is very detailed and most information is followed by an appropriate citation. However there are specific instances in which links could be added to facilitate the reader’s understanding of the information. For example, in the first section all of the elements had a hyperlink to a more detailed article about its properties, except for hydrogen and cobalt. In the “Nitrogen” section, words such as chlorosis, phloem sap, ureides, necrosis, and tracheids were neither explained nor linked to. For a reader with no background knowledge on the subject the lack of this information may make it hard to completely grasp the concept.
Is the article neutral? Are there any claims, or frames, that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?
No, this article is very well written. I was able to find one sentence that seemed like an opinion, in “Functions of Nutrients” the autor/s wrote “Plant nutrition is a difficult subject to understand completely, …” which could be rewritten.
Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented or underrepresented?
The soil elements were elaborated on in depth, while other portions seemed neglected. Specifically, at the end (Plant Nutrition in Agricultural Systems) I feel as if the author/s should have elaborated on more types of systems, rather than merely hydroponics.
Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you?
I thought the article was very well written and contained a lot of depth. I liked how it highlighted how to spot specific nutrient deficiencies. Some of the larger, more scientific words may have been difficult for a younger reader to understand, especially those lacking further explanation or links, this was the only portion I could imagine as being distracting.
How does this article compare to the way we talk about plant nutrition in class?
In class, Professor Nunez talks about the chemistry and physiology of the plant rather than explaining what each element is. Visual representations and hands on activities help us as students to completely grasp the material in comparison to reading a Wikipedia article.
