The Metz Company was a pioneer automobile maker established by Charles Herman Metz in Waltham, Massachusetts, from 1909 to 1922.[1][2]

C.H. Metz began in business in 1886 making bicycle parts, and in 1893 formed the Waltham Manufacturing Company with Herbert L. Thompson, Elmer G. Howe and Frank L. Howe.[3] Later the firm developed designs for motorized vehicles.

Charles Herman Metz (1863-1937) war der Sohn eines Schreiners aus Utica (New York). Die Schule beendete er nach sechs Jahren und half zunächst seinem Vater ehe er sich für den aufkommenden Radsport interessierte und aktiver Radrennfahrer in der Hochrad-Kategorie wurde. 1885 wurde er am State Fair in Syracuse New Yorker Staatsmeister in dieser Klasse. 1889 begann er für die Union Cycle Manufacturing Company in Highlandsville (Massachusetts) Fahrräder zu entwerfen.
