History

Farallon plate is an ancient ocean plate, as early as the Jurassic Pan-continental disintegration of the time. It began to hide in the North American plate under the West Coast, the initial hidden in the United States Utah, later with the North American plate Continue to proliferate and gradually westward. It is named after the Farallon Islands, not far from San Francisco, California, USA.

After the start of the hidden, with time going on, the central part of the North African continent hidden in the southwest part. Now they are all hidden. The Farallon plate is formed by the eastern Pacific Ocean. Since the eastern Pacific Ocean was divided into a number of sections by some of the huge transition faults. The eastern part of these transitional faults have been hidden. So the remainder of the Farallon plate has now been split has become a number of small plates and micro-plate. From the north to the south, they are explorer plate, Juan De Fuka plate, Gorda plate (these three are hidden in the north of the North American plate); Rivera plate, Cocos plate (the two hidden in the Central America); and the Nascar plate, which was hidden beneath the South American plate.

According to the study, most of the Farallon plate was originally dived to a very small angle to North America (especially in the western United States and southwest of Canada), thus creating most of the mountainous areas of the region (especially the United States The territory of the Rocky Mountains). It is believed that a large fragment of the Farallon plate is now in the mantle below North America. It is also speculated that the Farallon plate has been hidden in the expansion center did not stop the activities of its expansion, may be the formation of the western western basin of the reasons.

In addition, the Farallon plate is also the ancient island arc and it is from other distant plate of a variety of continental crust fragments to North America, so that the North American plate growing. These fragments, which are moved from other places, are called terrules (sometimes more often referred to as "alien terrain"). Most of the western part of North America is made up of these hyperplastic terrain.

Other Unsolved Questions:

Week 5&6.

The Farallon Trench was an ancient oceanic trench on the west coast of North America during the Late Cretaceous period. The trench started disappearing when the Farallon Plate began subducting under the North American Plate. The Subduction of oceanic lithosphere occurs through trench migration. So that after the Farallon Plate completely subducted, there are only Juan de Fuca Plate remaining. The Farallon Trench then turned into the San Andreas Fault. Since then, it has spread out to the north, trench above Juan De Fuca Plate, and south, trench above Central America. The time duration of subduction began from 165 Ma, Farallon Trench replacing the Mezczlera promontory, till 5 Ma, San Andreas fault straightening.

Week 4.

For the article " Farallon Trench" I have chosen, I am going to add more references and citations for the text. Of course I am going to expand the text related to the topic.

Week 3.

You added the text and citation "According to mineral physics experiments, at lower mantle pressures, oceanic crust becomes denser than the surrounding mantle.[4]" to the Oceanic Crust page. This is an important point but it does not belong where you have placed it because it break up a discussion of the 3 layers. It would be better in the section on Composition and would be better placed in the section on Life Cycle.

Your reference "Kodaira, S., Noguchi, N., Takahashi, N., Ishizuka, O., & Kaneda, Y. (2010). Evolution from fore‐arc oceanic crust to island arc crust: A seismic study along the Izu‐Bonin fore arc. Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 115(B9), N/a" is not an appropriate citation to support the sentence before it. It does not describe analyses of ophiolites , comparisons of the seismic structure of the oceanic crust with laboratory determinations of seismic velocities of known rocks, or samples recovered from the ocean floor by submersibles and dredging, but instead compares the seismic properties of crust formed in a forearc with normal oceanic crust. What I learn and thoughts on Assignment 2 edit

This is a reasonable critique. For the Convergent boundary article it would be useful to get into more detail and give examples of how it could be improved other than by adding citations. Note that "Mid Importance" refers to the importance of the topic rather than the quality of the article. The quality is indicated by its rating as "Start class". I do agree with your statement on the article talk page that it is actually quite an informative article - it just lacks citations. Note that the Plate Tectonic article is rated "B-class" but the Wikipedia editorial team which suggests that they think it can be improved" William Wilcock (talk) 05:20, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

The first article inroduced plate tectonics specifically in several aspects like principles, types of plate boundaries, driving forces of plate motion, the development of the theory, implications for biogeography, plate reconstruction and current plates. From the article I understand that plate tectonics is theory telling the motion of plates of the Earth's lithosphere. There are three types of plate boundaries: transform boundaries, divergent boundaries and convergent boundaries. They are forced to moved due to mantle dynamics, gravity, and earth rotation. I think each fact referenced with appropriate reference and almost everything in this article is relevant to the topic. However, I do not think the last topic, other celestial bodies, is necessary to be showed in the article because we are focusing on the plate tectonic on the earth. This article is high-importance rated in most topic areas.

The second article "Convergent boundary" presents the counvergent boundary with definition, examples and specific description. It shows more details than that in the first article, which also mentioned the convergent boundary. The article has been rated as mid-importance, which means it need to be revised in several aspects like references. citations, relevance, etc
