The 1958 NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup Series) season witnessed NASCAR legend Lee Petty capturing the years championship. While winning 7 races, capturing 4 poles, and gathering 12,232 points, Petty managed to earn $26,565 for the season. Once Petty took the point lead in the opening race, he remained the point leader for the entire remainder of the season; besting second place Buck Baker (11,558) and third place finisher Speedy Thompson who finished with 8792.[1]
