Pictures of the Grand canal in venice

One of the most extra-ordinary places to me personally is the Grand Canal in Venice. The Grand Canal is the biggest Canal situated in Venice Italy and it has the shape of a backward 'S'

[1] The Grand Canal is 5 meters deep and offers easier transport and access to shipping. Its a very spectacular waterway that's surrounded by Large beautiful buildings.[2] The banks of the Grand Canal are lined with more than 170 buildings, most of which date to 13th to the 18th century and demonstrate the welfare and art created by the Republic of Venice.[3]

It has been around for many centuries and includes Foot traffic gathering around three famous bridges that cross the canal: the Ponte Degli Scalzi, therialto Bridge, and the Ponte dell'Accademia. One of the best ways to have a view of the gorgeous buildings along the Grand Canal,is to travel by vaporetto (water bus)or water taxi from one end to the other. It is a gorgeous waterway and quite romantic.A romantic gondola ride along the waterway is also provided there which is an especially memorable way to experience the Canal Grande. It is believed that the Grand Canal follows the course of an ancient river. One of the first settlements in the area grew along the canal around the area of the current Rialto Bridge which is another tourist attraction in Venice.((www.aviewoncities.com › Venice › Venice Attractions))

The wonderful waterway is Slightly more than 2 miles (3 km) long and between 100 and 225 feet (30 and 70 metres) wide, the Grand Canal has an average depth of 17 feet (5 metres) and connects at various points with a maze of smaller canals. These waterways carry the bulk of Venetian transportation, as automobiles are banned throughout much of the city.[4]
