People have different brainwaves when they are awake and when they are asleep. Recorded by an electroencephalograph device, people's brains generate two different kinds of brainwaves: alpha waves and beta waves. Alpha wave is about 10 cycles per second, and beta wave is twice as fast. During sleep, there are two brainwaves, too: theta waves and delta waves. Theta wave has a cycle period less than 10 cps, and delta below three.
