User:Cenarium/Flagged revisions/Archive

The new version is located at User:Cenarium/sighted revisions. This is a proposal to enable sighted revisions for certain pages under conditions decided by the community. Below are proposals for these conditions and the reviewing terms. See the discussion here.

Enable

edit

An administrator may enable sighted revisions on a page when one of these conditions is satisfied. [1]

Temporary

edit
  • consensus on the talk page or on a noticeboard (provided the discussion is linked from the talk page)
  • article linked from the Main Page in bold (subject to discussion/vote in the poll)
  • Today's featured articles for the four days remaining on the Main Page (subject to discussion/vote in the poll)

Indefinite

edit
  • consensus on talk page or on a noticeboard (provided the discussion is linked from the talk page)

Possible uses

edit

These are possible reasons to enable sighted revisions on a page, but unless an article meets one of the criteria above, are not sufficient to enable sighted revisions without consensus. Semi protection and protection are the usual emergency responses to high levels of vandalism or violations of our core policies.

Temporary

edit
  • article related to current events, when semi protection is insufficient
  • article mentioned in a media or linked from a high traffic website, when semi protection is insufficient
  • article linked from Main Page

Indefinite

edit
  • controversial/contentious articles
  • biography of living persons (wp:blp)
  • constant vandalism where semi-protection is insufficient

Reviewing

edit

All surveyors are to follow these rules, including administrators. Violation of these terms may result in a loss of privileges.

  • No sighting of an article under dispute when one is involved in the dispute, this includes one's own edits[2] (subject to discussion/vote in the poll)
  • two-revert rule, surveyor status will be removed in case of violation (subject to discussion/vote in the poll)

Surveyors

edit

Administrators are automatically assigned to the surveyor group, and can assign this user group. Requests are to be made at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions.[3]

  • User in good standing as defined by the community (subject to discussion/vote in the poll)
  • User agrees to the reviewing terms

Disputes on sighting

edit
  • In case of dispute on a sighting of a revision, consensus is required so that the revision be sighted. (subject to discussion/vote in the poll)

On generalizing

edit

A possibility to deal with disputes and allow a generalized usage of sighting in the same time would be to create a user group included in surveyor (and containing administrators), say reviewer, and that administrators be able to restrict the sighting of an article to reviewers. The purpose is that controversial articles are left to reviewers, because all surveyors are not necessarily entrusted for sighting those articles, but are entrusted to deal with vandalism. This way, we could dramatically increase the number of surveyors and in the same time, of articles with sighting enabled.

Notes

edit
  1. ^ The number of surveyors will steadily grow and lowering these conditions may result in huge backlogs for surveyors. In addition, in lights of the absence of community consensus on a generalized use of flagged/sighted revisions, enabling sighted revisions on a large number of pages is frowned upon.
  2. ^ The number of reviewers should be sufficient so that exceptions are not needed.
  3. ^ Unless there is consensus of the community to do so, this status will not be given automatically.
