Hello, welcome to your New Page Patrol School page! Every person I instruct will have their own page on which I will give them support and tasks for them to complete. Please make sure you have this page added to your watchlist. Your NPP School page has been specifically designed according to you and what you have requested instruction in - for that reason, please be as specific as possible when under my instruction, so that I know the best ways to help you (and do not be afraid to let me know if you think something isn't working).

Make sure you read through Wikipedia:Notability as that's the knowledge which most of the questions I ask you and tasks you do will revolve around.

How to use this page

This page will be built up over your time in the Academy, with new sections being added as you complete old ones. Each section will end with a task, written in bold type - this might just ask a question, or it might require you to go and do something. You can answer a question by typing the answer below the task; if you have to do something, you will need to provide diffs to demonstrate that you have completed the task. Some sections will have more than one task, sometimes additional tasks may be added to a section as you complete them. Please always sign your responses to tasks as you would on a talk page.

If both the instructor and student make completing the course curriculum a top priority, it will generally take around a month to go through the entirety of the curriculum. This pace is not required or necessarily expected, but rather is provided in order to give participants an idea of what to expect.

Notability edit

PART 1

When patrolling or reviewing an article, you may often come across articles do not meet the WP:N guidelines, but the editors make the edits in good faith. Please read WP:AGF and do not WP:BITE the new editors.

A. Notability is a test guidelines to decide whether a given topic warrants its own article in Wikipedia mainspace. Please read Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, General Notability Guidelines, Specific Notability Guidelines, Stand-alone list before completing the following tasks.

General notability guidelines edit

1. In your own words, why it is important to WP:AGF and not WP:BITE new editors.

Answer: In general, I believe it is particularly important to assume good faith in that, new editors are here to contribute but not to harm Wikipedia. Even though they might not be aware of Wikipedia policies and guidelines and as such may make some mistakes trying to contribute. Assuming good faith create good links between editors of varrying experience and may inspire new ones to stay and keep editing rather than get scared and stop editing entirely due to hostility and pressure from more experinced once. Hence, new editors are an integral part of the Wikimedia movement as they bring along fresh ideas, new creativities and innovations and contribute a long lasting works.

One must also recognise that everyone including experienced editors can make mistakes and thus, good faith helps in guiding editors on Wikpedia.

2. In your own words, how is notability defined in Wikipedia?

Answer: Notability in Wikipedia means certain criteria that a topic needs to meet before it is to be accepted as a standalone article. Notability deals with the encyclopedic suitability of a topic. An article must therefore meet the meet the general notability guidelines and  the  subject-specific notability guidelines. The general notablity guidelines simply deals with coverage received by a topic from sources that are independent of the subject. While specific notability guidelines deals with the significance and prominancy of a specific subject in relation to academics, books, events, geographical features, music, organizations, people, sports etc. and it has to be free from what Wikipedia is not policies.

 Y. In Wikipedia, notability means "worthy to be noted" - it is defined as a topic is "presumably" notable for stand-alone article or list if (1) it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject whee by the sources talk "directly" about the subject in depth and in length and not only passing mentioned and (2) it is not excluded under the What WP:Wikipedia is not policy. Cassiopeia talk 23:44, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

3. Does a step by step instructions on how to "Change a car tire" considered a notable topic in Wikipedia?

Answer: No, because from what Wikipedia is not policies; Wikpedia is not a manual book, guidebook, textbook or journal.

 Y. Cassiopeia talk 23:44, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

4. What are the differences between A WP:GNG and a specific notability guidelines? how do we determine which one to use when patrolling an article?

Answer: From my understanding, GNG deals with the recognition of a subject from independent reliable sources. While, specific notability guidelines deals with the notability or importance of the subject in relation to some specific guidelines or topics such as academics, books, events, geographical features, music, organizations, people, sports among others. Thus, when patrollling an article one must recognise the subject specific guidelines of the article first as an important topic may lack sufficient independent sources in some cases. Therefore, GNG covers the aspect of coverage from reliable sources that are independent from the subject, while specific notabiity guidelines focus on the notability of the subject itself.

 Y. Both can be used to review a new article; however specific notability does not superseded GNG. Note and xxample: certain subjects would not meet GNG due to the fact that no article talk about them directly in length and in dept such the academics- WP:PROF - who would received few or none independence source talk about them (we would see BBC write an article about car stuck in a tree see here but not the President of Australian National University would be hard to find) Other SGN such as WP:NCORP and WP:NPOL specify a very strict set of source criteria and requirements respectively. Cassiopeia talk 23:44, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

Specific notability guidelines edit

5. If an editor creates an article about "2024 Summer Olympics" in 2019 without providing any sources, is the subject considered not notable and why?

Answer: From Wikipedia:PAGEDECIDE guide, a future event may clearly be suitable for a standalone page (such as summer olympics). However, before creating such articles, one should make sure that the likelihood of the future event occurring is reasonably assures. Therefore, before creating a topic 2024 Summer Olympics page, there must be confirmation from a reliable sources on the occurrence of the event. Hence, since the editor did not create any source, the subject may be considered not notable until evidence is provided from reliable independent sources.

Answer: 1). Notable under Wikipedia:EVENTCRITERIA 2) This article has met so many SSN guidelines in that; it has an enduring historical significance and have enough coverages worldwide, the event had a widespread impact on the US soil and US nuclear power plant history (being rated Level 5 accident with wider consequences). The event has also demonstrated a long-term impact on the US soil and therefore met the Wikipedia:GEOSCOPE. The event also resulted in the release of radioactive gases and radioactive iodine into the environment which causes increase in the rate of cancer around the area in such it has met both Wikipedia:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE, Wikipedia:DIVERSE and many more.

Topic Explanation 5 Examples Comment by Cass
Reliable source means a criteria that strictly make sure that all majority and significant minority views that have appeared in those sources are covered in a neutral point of view by an independent, reputable and original sources that are fact checking, trusted and non-questionable, non-self published nor user-generated. Reliability depends on both the i) the piece of work (book, article..) ii). The creator of the work (the writer, journalist) and (iii). Non Independent source A non-independent source is the opposite of independent source, that is, are topics that cover an interest or biased perspective. Non independent sources have no editorial independence and have conflict of interest. For instance, a press release is said to be non independent if it is written either by the business or organization it is written about, or by a business or person hired by or affiliated with the organization. However, non-independent sources may be used to source content for articles, but the connection of the source to the topic must be clearly identified. They include contents from Press releases, Syndicate stories or conflict of insterest.

Type Explanation Sources (15 Primary ; 5 Secondary ; 5 Tertiary) Comment by Cass
Primary Are original materials that are close to an event, and are often accounts written by people who are directly involved. They offer a direct insider view of an event, a period of history, a work of art, a political decision, and so on.  Y. Cassiopeia talk 06:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

  3. An account of a traffic incident written by a witness is a primary source
  4. An interview on the biography of a politician is a primary source

 Y. By the way, pls provide another 10 more examples (see the requirements needed above) Cassiopeia talk 06:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
Secondary is one step removed from primary source, that is it provides the authors' thinking based on the primary source. It contains an author's analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or synthesis of the facts, evidence, concepts, and ideas taken from primary sources. Secondary sources generally depend on the information provided by the primary sources. For instance, a paper reviewing a research is a secondary source of that research.  Y. 4. Please explain in your own words why the content claimed needs to be verified?

Answer: Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia which means anyone can edit and as such some may come along with a form of bias of vandalism, and this may over-hype or damage the reputation of biography of living person or providing false information. Therefore, every content must be verified using inline citations from reliable source. Patrollers and administrators needs to ensure that all quotations, material whose verifiability has been challenged, all material that is likely to be challenged and all contentious matter about living and recently deceased persons are well cited from reliable sources.

 Y. Content needs to verifiable so we may know where the info/source from for we could know if the source is independent and reliable, and not because it is the facts or true - see WP:But it's true!. If source indicated XXX is from Jamaica but the fact XXX is from Cuba, we put XXX is from Jamaica in article as per source. We will correct the info when the sources (not need to be the same source) correct itself. For example Alexander the Great - How he die is based on which sources you read, from poising, to malaria and typhoid fever to infectious (meningitis) to acute pancreatitis and etc. Cassiopeia talk 06:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

5.Could we used Wikipedia as the source? and why?

Answer: Wikipedia and websites mirroring Wikipedia as a source should not be used as sources since Wikipedia is considered as user-generated sources. Content from a Wikipedia article is not considered reliable unless it is backed up by citing confirmed reliable sources that support the contents. However, Wikipedia can be used as primary source if Wikipedia or sister projects is being discussed in the project, but it has to follow the primary source policy.

 Y. Wikipedia can not be the sources as the content of Wikipedia is supported by "other sources" - See WP:CIRCULAR. Wikipedia is a online knowledge sharing platform. Readers should check the sources in the article and verify/read the info themselves. Cassiopeia talk 06:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

6.Give an example and explain why a source is reliable but not independent of a subject?

Answer: Articles should be based on reliable, independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. A source can be reliable but not independent but not independent when it is sourced from a reputable source but the contents are self-interest or biased. Example, when a magazine publish a story about a product based on information provided by the director or founder of the company.

Y Provided the magazine is a reliable source in the first place. Cassiopeia talk 06:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

7.Give an example and explain why a source is independent source but not reliable?

Answer: An independent source is a source that has no vested interest in a given Wikipedia topic and therefore is commonly expected to cover the topic from a disinterested perspective. Independent sources have editorial independence (advertisers do not dictate content) and no conflicts of interest. An article is therefore independent but not reliable when the source are independent of the topic but rely heavily of rumors, gossips, extremists etc.

{{cross} an independent source means the source has no association, affiliation, connection with the subject such as my website has not association with US defense department or I do not have personal nor business connection with Bill Gates or Microsoft where my website has written an article about Gates and his company - that is an independent source but since it is just my website and there is not a reputable fact checking site, that would considered not reliable. Fallingwater, Mill Run, Pennsylvania (1937)

Frank Lloyd Wright (June 8, 1867 – April 9, 1959) was an American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator. Wright believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. His creative period spanned more than 70 years. He works includes The Guggenheim, swirling, snail-shaped museum in the middle of Manhattan.[1][2] Fallingwater, which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture."[3] This is one of Wright's most famous private residences (completed 1937), was built for Mr. and Mrs. Edgar J. Kaufmann, Sr., at Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Constructed over a 30-foot waterfall, it was designed according to Wright's desire to place the occupants close to the natural surroundings. The house was intended to be more of a family getaway, rather than a live-in home.[4]

Neutral point of view edit

P;lease read WP:NPOV and MOS:PUFF. Point out the WP:NPOV words/pharses and rewrite the paragraph on Question 9& 10 from a neutral point of view.

9. She is a brilliant boxer with a rare and exceptional beauty. She turned Pro at the age of 19 after winning one amateur fight on December 14, 2013 where she destroyed her opponent in 20 seconds. Her talent and marketability made her a fighter to watch right out the gate and she fought under XXX promotion on her next fight on February 2014.

Answer: She is a beautiful boxer. She turned Pro at the age of 19 on December 14, 2013, after winning an amateur fight in just 20 seconds. It was reported that her skills and marketability made her a fighter to watch right after and she fought under XXX promotion on her next fight on February 2014.

N - Pls read WP:NPOV (plain, fact, simple texts) and avoid any MOS:PUFF. Cassiopeia talk 09:37, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
Answer again: She is a boxer. She turned professional after winning an amateur fight 20 seconds. She fought under XXX promotion on her next fight on February 2014.
Y.It would be better to remove "20 seconds" as it is an adverb which make the sentence a little not so neutral, unless to win the fight in just 20 seconds have a extremely significant of the bout or her career. Cassiopeia talk 03:31, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

11. Please read WP:DUE and in your own words, please explain why it is important to provide balance and due weight content in an article.

Answer: Balance in writing Wikipedia articles is relatively important specially to show neutrality. When two different reliable sources contradict in an opinion. it is best to state each view point thereby maintaining neutrality. Due weight are also important in article writing so as to not give unnecessary attention to a significant minority views thereby making an article a bit confusing or vague, unless when writing articles about such controversies. It is therefore important to stick with the majority views on the topic and perhaps state the little minority under see also.

  • Paraphrased from Jimbo Wales' September 2003 post on the WikiEN-l mailing list:

If a viewpoint is in the majority, then it should be easy to substantiate it with references to commonly accepted reference texts; If a viewpoint is held by a significant minority, then it should be easy to name prominent adherents; If a viewpoint is held by an extremely small minority, it does not belong on Wikipedia, regardless of whether it is true, or you can prove it, except perhaps in some ancillary article.

 Y. Take Capital punishment article for example - it provides a balance and due weight content, representing all mainstream points of view in reliable sources. Cassiopeia talk 09:37, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

No original research edit

Please read WP:OR and WP:NOT and answer the questions below
12. In your own words, why Wikipedia is not a platform to publish original research?

Answer: Wikipedia is built based on research that have been collected and organized from reliable independent sources, if no reliable sources exist, an article should not be created on Wikipedia. The best practice is to summarize information from reliable sources with each statement being verifiable. Hence, if you discover something new, Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought. Wikipedia contents is determined by previously published information rather than editors' beliefs, opinions, or experiences. Even if you are sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it.

 Y. Cassiopeia talk 09:42, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

13. In your own words, please provide one example with explanation when it is appropriate to insert an original research or an opinion in an article.

Answer: The only way an original research or primary source can be accepted is when they are sourced from reliable independent sources or secondary sources independent of the original research

 N. We could use exact words from the source in the article when (1) it is a public domain sites (2) the author/site has released their copyright and anyone to use the content/image such as " agree to irrevocably agree to release content/image under the CC BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL or under the Creative Commons license. (3) a direct quote and provide the source. Example Constitution of the United States and in Robert Whittaker (fighter) page (see below direct quote). Cassiopeia talk 09:42, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

15. If the subject has two sons and it is supported by three independent, reliable sources but in reality he has 3 sons. Could we change the content from "2" sons to "3 sons"? and why?

9. Pls read WP:R2 and WP:NPPDRAFT. Please explain when to a new page (NPP article) can be nominated for CSD R2 and what should be considered when doing such move?

Answer: A page can be nominated for CSD R2 (Cross-namespace redirects) if the page redirected to draft space if the article does not meet the requirement to stand-alone article on Wikipedia namespace, and what to consider during such a move include: i. the topic has some potential merit, and ii. the article does not meet the required standard, and iii. there is no evidence of active improvement (at least one hour since the last constructive edit), and iv. the article does not contain copyright violations or v. when the author clearly has a conflict of interest

N A new page can be nominated for speedy deletion under R2 if it provides a redirect from the mainspace to a different namespace, except (including Category:, Help: Template:, Portal:). The reason this criterion exists is to separate the mainspace, which is visible to the public, from various behind the scenes operations of Wikipedia. One other thing that should be considered is whether the redirect is to a article that has been moved to the draft space. In that case, the redirect does not qualify for R2. Also, R2 to draft space - We move articles to the draftspace to allow articles to be developed especially potential but unsourced WP:BLP article. Use R2 sparingly as some admins do not like pages to be move to draft page even WP:NPPDRAFT states the move is a safe place for editor to adding necessary sources, they would deems the if the articles are not improved or edit in 6 months, it will be G13. Copyright violation and paid editors edit

Pls read WP:COI and WP:PAID and answer the following question
11. How do we spot a COI/PAID editor?

Answer: A COI/PAID editor can be spotted especially when a personal relationship exists between an editor and the subject or company/organization on Wikipedia. These relationships may be family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships. A person may have COI if he/she has personal interest in the subject. While Paid editors include editing Wikipedia in exchange for money. When large amounts of text are added to an article on behalf of the article subject, the article has, in effect, been ghostwritten by the subject without the readers' knowledge. Responding volunteers should therefore carefully check the proposed text and sources. Look carefully at the following:

  • Look for unnecessary detail that may have been added to overwhelm something negative.
  • Make sure nothing important is missing. Responding editors should do their own search for independent sources. Do not rely on the sources offered by the paid editor.
  • Look for non-neutral language and unsourced or poorly sourced content.
  • Be cautious about accepting content based on self-published sources such as a personal website, or primary sources such as a company website or press release.
  • If the paid text is added to the article, the edit summary should include full attribution; for example: "Text inserted on behalf of paid editor User:X; copied from Draft:Paid draft." See WP:COIATTRIBUTE below.

Editors who have a general conflict of interest may make unambiguously uncontroversial edits (but see WP:FINANCIALCOI). They may:

  1. remove spam and unambiguous vandalism,
  2. remove unambiguous violations of the biography of living persons policy,
  3. fix spelling, grammatical, or markup errors,
  4. repair broken links,
  5. remove their own COI edits, and
  6. add independent reliable sources when another editor has requested them, although it is better to supply them on the talk page for others to add.
 Y. See more on Note section below at the communication. Cassiopeia talk 03:30, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

12. What you should do when you review an NPP article and notice the creator is a COI editor?

Answer: If you notice COI, you should; 1. Advocacy, noticeboards: If a user's edits lead you to believe that they might have a COI (that is, if they have an "apparent COI"), and there has been no COI disclosure, consider first whether the issue may be simple advocacy. 2. Reporting to the conflict of interest noticeboard 3. Avoid outing: which include avoiding revealing the identity of the editor 4. Accounts that appear to be single-purpose, existing for the sole or primary purpose of promotion or denigration of a person, company, product, service, website, organization, etc., and whose postings are in apparent violation of this guideline, should be made aware of this guideline and warned not to continue their problematic editing. If the same pattern of editing continues after the warning, the account may be blocked.

 Y. Note: COI editor needs to disclosed their COI on the article talk page and their user page. We "must" move a COI editor page from new page feed to draft space no matter how many years/edits/page created by the COI editor so the article would be first check by WP:Article for Creation (AfC) reviewer and then by New Page (NPP) reviewer/patroller. If a reviewer has both AfC and NPP reviewer right, then once the article (any article) is accepted in draft space will be automatically bypass New Page review and place in main space. Google will index the page (a few hours to a few days - Wikipedia has no control of when it will be indexed) once the article is accepted by a NPP reveiwer. Cassiopeia talk 03:30, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

13. Please read WP:PAID. What you should do when you review an NPP article and notice the creator is a paid editor?

Answer: If an undisclosed paid editor is noticed, the patroller should report it to the Administrators' Noticeboard (Incidents) or to the Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest Noticeboard if it does not involve revealing the private information of an editor. You can also email paid-en-wp@wikipedia.org with why you believe an editor is engaged in paid editing and there is private information and you can also contact member of the CheckUser team directly.

Notes

G11 (promo) - What constitute a G11? At times it is hard to define. Although if a article is bluntly promote or advertise about the subject then it is a G11. Sometimes, the it is a little subtle and that would be a judgement call. As a rule of thumb, if article about an entertainers (actor/singer/DJ/artist and etc) in dept of how hard they work, how motivated they are, using all the puffery/flowery languages and especially the subject does not meet notability guidelines. For a corporation, we would see they list down all they product/services, their directors/key person in the company, they mission, their client, they are the influencer in their industrial, all the words/phrased to enhance/market the company and no substantial info that is supported by independent reliable sources.

G12 (copyvio) -

Copyright violation addresses the use of original expression without permission of the holder which is a violation of laws even the credit is given to the source. For articles, the Copyright Law gives the copyright protection to the “original works of authorship fixed in in a tangible medium of expression” in the newspaper, magazine and freelance article at the moment of their creation, for the life of the creator plus 70 years after, and 95 years for corporation publication or 120 years from date of creation, whichever is shorter.

A “fact” is not considered an original work of authorship; but how the ways facts are recorded where the style of the writing, choice and/or arrangement of words are copyrightable. An infringement of copyright is committed when a person uses the “exact words /almost exact words in a consecutive manner” of the author/holder. To note, as a guideline, a few words copies from the original works and an idea of expression such as "weather the storm", 'crossing the Rubicon" "as dead as a doornail" and etc. proper nouns, document/event/treaty/person/title/ names are generally acceptable and so is a direct quote of speech. However, any longer phrases which would be expression in a number of ways are copyright protected. To use one of two short sentences on a large article generally is ok but it will considered infringement if the edit entry is consists of big percentage of the original work and yet for some (such as newspaper/press/journalism that takes their work very seriously - anything more than 4 exact consecutively words would considered copyvio). To avoid copyright infringement, one needs uses his/her own words to convey the source’s information. Paraphrasing could minimize the the copyright violation; however, "threshold" ultimately, court judgement would determined the if copyright violation has been made.

Copyvio for texts or images shared the same notion that it is not a copyvio if the verbatim texts or images are taken from free licence and Public domain sites/specific page/image. Always check the "original source" even if in WikiCommon the editor who upload the image claim taken from a PD site, we need to check the link provided and if the site indicate the image taken from another source, then we check the source. For texts, we need to check the sites if it is a PD, sometimes the disclaimer of PD is not on the page, but on the home page or "about" page or FAQ page. Secondly, for older article (no in NPP Feed), any copyvio texts found, we will revdel it as it is almost always it is not the first versions. If a small amount of verbatim texts found in NPP Feed articles, we would revdel them; but large amount of verbatim texts we will tag G12.

Lastly, here are a few examples where the German car maker Audi was sued for copyright breach.

1. Audi infringed copyright violation over Eminem’s song “Lose Yourself” in their commercial advertising. [5]

2. Audi was fined US $ 965,000 over copyright infringement for using 10 words from Brian Andreas’s story of “Angel of Mercy” - [6]

I think I just had a wake-up call, and it was disguised as a car, and it was screaming at me not to get too comfortable and fall asleep and miss my life. (Audi commercial) Some people don’t know that there are angels whose only job is to make sure you don’t get too comfortable & fall asleep & miss your life.(Brian Andreas’ print)

Spot COI / PAID COI editors are permitted to edit Wikipedia and create on the affected articles; however, it is "HIGHLY DISCOURAGE/NOT RECOMMENDED as it is very difficult for the COI editors to write the article/input info into the affected article in [[WP:NPOV|neutral point of view}}.

1.Use person pronouns and possessives (I, we, my, our) 2.Multiple references to company, financial listings, staff lists, interviews, own publication, press release, blog and with clean references 3.Well written prose 'too perfect to be true' and only with single/2 edits 4.Editors have created multiple company related articles 5.Editors disclosed their COI/PAID in their userpage (not tag with COI disclose), or disclosure when they ask question in WP:Teahouse, WP:Help Desk, WP:AFCHD or receivers' talk pages.

A7/A9/A11 - Credible claim of significance - If the subject content do have such claim, then it is not a A7 even the article at the present stage of the article is not notable. Choose other method. (1) after a WP:BEFORE and found no independent reliable sources to support the notability requirements, then nominated for WP:AFD, or R2 to draft space if no sources are provided (do R2 sparingly). If it is a {[WP:BLP]] without source, then WP:BLPPROD or R2. - see Wikipedia:Credible claim of significance

Hope the above help. Note the above does not substitute the Wikipedia links and reading material I provided.

Tagging edit

In this assignment we look at tagging pages for problems. There any many tags available in Wikipedia and we will look at some of them here.

Tagging in the article edit

Please read WP:TAGGING and answer the questions below. Please provide explanation in your own words and provide hist diff when applicable.

1. Why do we place tags on the article?

Answer: We place tags to a problematic article in order that to ask other editors to improve the article that we can not or will not improve ourselves.

Y I think you meant "could not improve". Cassiopeia talk 03:00, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

2. What does "drive by tagging" mean?

Answer: is adding tags for non-obvious or perceived problems—without identifying the problem well enough for it to be easily fixed—is frequently referred to as "drive-by tagging"; especially when done by editors who are not involved in the article development.

Y.It does not matter who tag but drive by tagging is adding tags for non-obvious issues. Cassiopeia talk 03:00, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

3. List down 8 common tagging should be avoided in an article?

Answer: i. Avoid vague tagging that will result in further confusion ii. Avoid too many tagging in one article: If an article has many problems, tag only the highest priority issues. iii. Avoid wrong tagging. Don't when a tag does not explain the problem you want to tag or when no tag exist for that specific problem. iv. unhelpful tags: don't put tags that will not help in improving the article. v. redundant tags: Avoid adding two tags to the same article, section or passage that essentially mean the same thing, in a whole. vi. Avoid adding tags to non-obvious problems without discussion vii. Don't tag an article if you can easily and confidently fix the problem. viii. Don't do "drive-by" tagging.

 Y. Cassiopeia talk 03:00, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

4. When it is appropriate to remove the tags?

Answer: When the purported problem has being solved; or when an editor sees tag that could not see the purported problem with the article and does not see any detailed complaint on the talk page may remove the tag

 Y. Cassiopeia talk 03:00, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Communication and editor interactions edit

Wikipedia project is a collaboration of many editors, some are experienced and some are new to the Project ad Wikipedia values all constructive editors' contributions alike. Communication in a civil, respectful manner is a vital part in Wikipedia, and it should be welcomed rather than discouraged especially to new editors who are not familiar with Wikipedia guidelines and policies for most new editors find it is a steep learning curve during the first few months of editing articles or creating articles in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia:Assume good faith, WP:BITE, WP:CIVIL, Wikipedia:Etiquette, and welcome template and answer the following questions. Do provide links and hist diff where appropriate.

Communication edit

1. How do we deal with a bad faith registered user and how do we deal with a bad faith IP editor?

Answer: Even if bad faith is evident do not act uncivilly yourself, or attack others or act aggressively. call the attention of of administrators and experienced editors will intervene and rule out if their is breach of policies by the other user.

However, a registered user and an IP address are all the same. Their comments, edits are also counted, as well as penalties such as blocks and bans.

 Y. We treat both IP and registered user the same way, except for new editors who at times might not know the Wikipedia guidelines and act on good fait even thought the edit(s) is not helpful, such as wrong table format, bold when it should not, wrong inline citation and etc., we would send them a civil message and let them know the right way to edit and the guidelines. If the edit(s) is a bad edit such as vandalism, personal attack, etc. then we place warning message on their talk page and if edit of such continuing then we report them.

2. What can we do to welcome and help the newcomers.? (List down 10 different ways/scenario)

i. Answer: We can do so, by leaving a welcome note for the new user on his/her talk page, welcoming him with good tone and introducing himher to the basic Wikipedia editing guidelines.

 Y. Cassiopeia talk 08:12, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

ii. Answer: Encourage them to be bold. Motivate them to edit any page (positively) where they feel there is correction or more information to be added.

 Y. Cassiopeia talk 08:12, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

iii. Answer: In a situation where new comer violated Wikipedia policies unknowingly, assume good faith, point out the mistake clearly and explain kindly ways to do it correctly and encourage them to avoid same mistake in the future

 Y. It is a serious vandalism edit then we will warn them on their talk page. Cassiopeia talk 08:12, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

iv. Answer: Even if a new user repeatedly make the same mistake, act in good faith and tell them about the penalties of violating Wikipedia guidelines deliberately

If the article does not meet CSD PROS and AfD, then review the article and help on adding categories, wiki link, shor description, talk page project and article class inf and etc and tag anything for other editor to help if needed - (note: that is how we review an article). Cassiopeia, I want to know if there is specific tool or page where I can access newly registered users for Question 7. And I will like to know if I can issue the barn star in any Language Wiki apart from English Wikipedia. Uncle Bash007 (talk) 17:00, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
Uncle Bash007 Pls send message to me here (the communication section) anything regarding the assignment and I will reply to you at the same place. There is no Q7, so pls let me know again which question you were referring to. All Wikipedia sister sites (different languagues) operate independently from each other and they have slightly different guidelines and reinforcement of the rules. So pls provide info/answer only pertaining to English Wikipedia. You can find new registered users HERE and you can also find new users who are interested in editing in WP:TEAHOUSE which is more useful to send them welcome messages since they have intention to learn more about editing English Wikipedia.
