Hi all, I have joined Wikipedia mainly due to my hobby/interest in translation (Chinese to English). I don't have much practical experience in the matter but I'd love to find out my current proficiency level (live and learn ;-). A bit of history - I moved to the States upon graduating from middle school. Thereafter, I have enjoyed immensely the swashbuckling experience of acquiring linguistic skills in various aspects of the English language from the vernacular to the Shakespearean with a dose of highly PC business communications thrown in. I have to confess my translation skills mainly operate on the subconscious level – i.e. pretty much entirely go by gut-feelings instead of any formal process. In fact that is the reason I enjoy translation so much – it feels fantastic to be operating on meaning instead of a specific language. The search for the precise shade to use in order to reflect the meaning accurately is both intense and exhilarating for me. So please send projects my way – I’ll have a great time giving them a go.
