User:Carcharoth/Additional notes

Some additional notes to pull together some thoughts as of late 2012 through to the present. Mainly to list Wikipedia events I have attended and (some) of the Wikipedians I have met. Not all those I have met are listed here (some I may have forgotten). Most meetings were at public events, a few at dinners when someone was in town or visiting. I attended Wikimania 2014 in London (August 2014) and met a large number of Wikipedians and Wikimedians in person, so the list below is now out of date.

Wikipedians I have met edit

Meetups attended edit

Several in Cambridge and several in London (this listing is not complete).

Editing sessions attended edit

One at the Geological Society of London, several at the British Library, including one on literature and drama (4 June 2011) and one on the First World War. Also visited an exhibition at the Royal Society. The events at the Geological Society of London (30 March 2012) and at the British Library on the First World War (16 June 2012), both with academics attending, were excellent. Attended a second WWI editing session at the British Library (29 June 2013). Attended the evening session of the 2014 Royal Society Women in Science session (4 March 2014).

Other events attended edit

Several of the visits arranged to exhibitions at the British Library. Also the event held in London on 13 January 2011 to celebrate 10 years of Wikipedia, where I briefly met Jimmy Wales and Cherie Blair. Richard Dawkins and Jimmy Wales both gave short speeches. Some other well-known people were there as well. An earlier event that stood out was a London meet-up attended by Sue Gardner, executive director of the WMF, who gave an informal presentation (11 April 2010). Another event with a difference was attending the talk given at the Royal Society after one of the Women in Science editing events (11 October 2013); the talk itself was very little to do with Wikipedia editing, but was still well worth attending.

10 years on Wikipedia edit

January 2015 marked the point at which I have been editing Wikipedia for 10 years. The type and range of my activities here have varied during that period, but this minor milestone falls rather conveniently at the end of my second arbitration term, so it is a good point to step back and take stock. I plan to write some essays on this and other topics over the coming year, as well as taking part more in meta discussions about Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement. On 14 December 2014, I subscribed to the Wikimedia-l mailing list. On 10 January 2015, I created an account at Wikipediocracy. I may join other mailing lists or other meta discussions (I am already subscribed to wiki-en-l and have an account on meta), but those two new locations should be enough for now.
