History edit

The business was founded by Lee Radtke and his three sons Mike, Nick, and Matt. The family has lived in the area since the 1970s and were home brewing aficionados for years before they decided to set up Gilgamesh Brewing, LLC. The business started out of Turner, Oregon but expanded into downtown Salem. Previously their beers were available through the Winter Ale House at the Reed Opera House. Their initial brewery location was at 210 Liberty Street SE, Suite 150, Salem, Oregon 97301, but in late 2012 they moved to the new location on Madrona Avenue (see Location). [1] [2] [3]

Significance of Name edit

The name of the company comes from the Epic of Gilgamesh which is often cited as an early source for beer brewing and use.

Location edit

The brewery lounge and campus are both located at 2065 Madrona Ave SE, Salem, Oregon 97302. This newer location had 18,000 sq. ft. of space and featured a restaurant/pub (see the Lounge). [2] [3][4]

The lounge is normally open seven days a week and is all ages for lunch and dinner services. The lounge also offers a full service restaurant including appetizers, entrees, and desert. The menu is locally sourced and has a rotating specials section. Events including big screen sports viewing, live music, and movies are frequent in the lounge. The lounge is also available for large parties and special functions upon reservation. [2]

Distribution edit

While many local bars keep kegs of various Gilgamesh beers on tap, the options for personal consumption are limited. Gilgamesh offers two different sizes of refillable bottles that once you purchase can be filled on each visit for a flat rate. The 1-liter pop-top, and the 64-ounce growler can be filled with either standard beer or specialty/seasonal brews. Common distribution sites in the Salem area include: Reed Opera House, F/stop Fitzgerald’s Public House, Venti’s Cafe, Gamberetti’s Restaurant, and Northern Lights Theatre Pub.[5]
