Sefer-Bey Zanoko was a leader of Circassian resistance to the Russian conquest of Circassia in the 19th century. Unlike his political rival Muhammad Amin, he supported an independent and united Circassia without connection to Imam Shamil's struggles in Dagestan and Chechnya. He allied with Britain, France and Turkey during the Crimean War.
