Sigma Lambda Honorary (SLH) was found in 2006 to recognized student leaders who have been active in campus programming[1]. This is consistent with the interests of the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities here, with which Sigma Lambda is affiliated[2]. Sigma and Lambda represent the pillars of scholarship and leadership, upon which, Sigma Lambda is constructed. While service is not officially considered a pillar of Sigma Lambda, it is a quality by which potential candidates are to judged[1]. Consequently, some chapters of Sigma Lambda consider service to be a third pillar[3] .

The spotlight alludes to the student programming aspect of Sigma Lambda while the words it highlights obviously represent the pillars of the organization.
