The Siege of Haditha was a 18-month long siege in the city Haditha between the Iraqi forces and its allies against ISIL.


Background edit

After ISIL launched its massive offensives in Northern Iraq, in the provincies of Al Anbar and Saladin and tooks control of the city Fallujah.

ISIL first offensive edit

ISIL second offensive edit

On 4 January 2016, launched ISIL a major offensive on the city, 10 days after the Iraqi forces retook most of the city Ramadi. The group attacked from three directions of the city. After a 3-day battle the Iraqi forces and its allies retook the town of Barwanah in a counter-offensive, the Iraqi Army lost 7 soldiers and killed more than 250 ISIL members and at least 100 cars of the group were destroyed. The U.S.-led international coalition’s air force did also killed 22 ISIL terorrists in an air strike.

Breaking the siege edit

Since the Iraqi forces and its allies retook the city of Ramandi. The Iraqi Army started to focuse more on the city. On 2 May, launched the Iraqi Army an offensive, to break the siege with goal capturing the town al-Baghdadi, several villages, the road between Hīt and Haditha, and also seized the in desert Camp Fedayeen.[3]

Aftermath edit

The siege and the resistance in Haditha was a symbolic victory against ISIL. After June 2016 the city of Fallujah get captured by the Iraqi Army.

On 16 September 2017 the Iraqi Army with his allies attacked the little town of Anah.

On 19 September 2017 the Iraqi army captured the town of Akashat.

On 26 October the Iraqi Army launched its last campaign to capturing the last strongholds of ISIL in west Iraq.

On 9 December 2017 the Iraqi government declared victory on ISIL.
