Hi there. I'm James Buchanan (born 1979), a professional member of the Australian Journalists Association, technical writer/journalist, author and software developer. I have a keen interest in mathematics and chemistry.

Presently I am looking for a publisher for an interview with Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux Kernel. Another interviews forthcoming include Richard Stallman, Donald Knuth and Justice Michael Kirby.

In 2000, I was commissioned by Borland International, Inc. to write a 16-part series of articles on UNIX Network Programming. I received tens of thousands of fan mails over a period of 18 months. Unfortunately the full 16 installments were not published because, I am led to believe, there were complaints that I didn't deal with buffer overflows and other details early on in the series. The reason I didn't include buffer overflows was so I didn't obscure the details of network programming in the early installments; apparently Borland didn't understand this and the fact was that I was teaching people who had never programmed the Berkeley Sockets API before.

I have held positions with IOOF Funds Management Pty Ltd, Brilliant Interactive Ideas (Brilliant Digital Entertainment, Inc NYSE BDE) and other less notable companies.

I began my career at the age of 12, when I published my first paid professional cartoon for Cumberland Business Directory. Since then during my early teenage years I published news articles, works of fiction and humorous pieces in various publications including the Australiasian Post magazine and appeared on radio; once regularly with the Australia Tonight show where I had a large fan base.

Here are a couple of pictures of me.
