It was constructed in 1947, when an earthen dam was built primarily to impound water from Sahoma Creek for use by residents of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. [a] The lake has 344 acres of surface area, 3 miles of shoreline, and an average depth of 13 feet.[1]]

Sahoma dam is 1330 feet long, 45 feet high, and has a maximum storage of 5720 acre-feet and a minimum storage of 4850 acre-feet. The drainage area is 37 square miles.[2]]
