Sean Phekoo (born February 13, 1981), known by his stage name/surname Phekoo (pronounced Fāy-Ko͞o, stylized as PHEKOO) is an American composer, musician and record producer. In 2013 Phekoo became the first foreigner ever to win the Japan Record Award Grand Prize (JRA) for “Song of the Year”. JRA are Japan's equivalent of the American Grammy.[1] Phekoo is also a member of the band Red Diamond Dogs(RDD).[2][3]

Biography

Phekoo has been playing music since he was four, when he was growing up in the Bronx, and has been performing in public since he was six. His talent won him full scholarships to both the Harlem School of the Arts and Long Island University. Over the years he’s played at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as well as various clubs, concerts and festivals, and many venues around the world.

Career

Phekoo is the composer for the multi-platinum single “Exile Pride”[4] by male vocal-dance group Exile. [5][6][7][8]

The official music video for Exile Pride[9] won Video of the Year at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards Japan.[10]

Phekoo has also composed the song Angel Heart[11] from the chart topping Album Love Ballade[12], by male vocalist Exile Atsushi.[13] Angel Heart is was the “theme song” for the Japanese Red Cross Society’s campaign concurrently for 2 years (2014-2015).[14][15][13][16]

PHEKOO is a member of Red Diamond Dogs (RDD), a Japan-based pop band featuring the singer-songwriter Exile Atsushi. In 2016, Red Diamond Dogs toured all over Japan and performed 11 shows.The band made it's debut on this tour.Each night the shows attracted 30,000 - 40,000. [17][18]
