Successor in the Flood Fighting Myth

edit

Chongbo is another name for Gun, who was not the first person to manage floods in ancient China (Tian et al., 2020)[1]. Before him, there was a famous flood fighter named Gonggong, who was also the god of water in Chinese mythology. Gonggong understood the suffering caused by floods, but his solutions were ineffective and even led to public discontent. Gonggong's methods were idealistic but impractical, as he intended to block the rivers, remove the highlands, and fill the lowlands. Tian et al. (2020)[1] argued that Gonggong's proposals went against the will of heaven and were not helped by the people, which ultimately led to his failure and unnatural death in managing floods.
