The Paracletos - Periclytos Controversy or Periclytos - Paracletos Controversy is a controversy related to certain Biblical texts. According to Christian sources, the Greek word Paracletos is found in John 14:16, 15:26, 16:7 and 18:36. The Greek word Paracletos has been translated into English as "Comforter, Counselor or Advocate". Muslims claim that the original word is "Periclytos" which means "the praise worthy" and refers to Muhammad which in Arabic also means "the praise worthy". Muslims claim that the manuscript writers mispelled the Greek word in the copying process. However, there is no textual evidence to proof that the original Greek word was "Periclytos". The Paracletos - Periclytos Controversy is a component of the Muslim/Christian debate over whether Muhammad is foretold in Biblical prophesy.
