Maplemania edit

All maple talk has been archived but the Maplemania Archive is on my watch page and I encourage you to leave comments there. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 08:43, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

No, thank you edit

I echo your sentiments. It's always nice to work with good people. It's great to have you Wiki-ing, and I for one look forward to seeing someone smart, grown-up and civilized on WikiProject Comics. You'll find some good people here, like User:ChrisGriswold, User:Pepso, User:CovenantD, User:Hiding and many others. Welcome, man!--Tenebrae 05:15, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Faux Pas edit

Thanks for the note and for the favorable vote on the Talk:List of faux pas page.

After I posted my note there, I noticed that there was a discussion at Talk:Wikitravel on the legal difficulties of moving material from Wikipedia to Wikitravel due to the fact that they use different Licensing schemes. I posed a question on that page and I'm waiting to see what comes of it.

In any case, see you around the wiki! --Elipongo 21:15, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

St. John edit

Yes, I just realised that his first name was Harry and he was known as St. John. I think one needs to say he is known as St. John, but I stand by my thinking the pronunciation obvious, however, I shan't object to its reinsertion, perhaps in a clearer way.--Couter-revolutionary 19:07, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Duke of Normandy edit

You wrote to Scolaire:

Salutations. I've no objections to the recent changes you made to my work on the Duke of Normandy article. I'm glad whenever I discover that someone has read my work and deemed it decent enough to make only minor alterations. Rather, I have a specific question: Do Wikipedia guidelines indicate that one should avoid links in title lines? If so I am eager to follow this model in the future.

Another minor question: I noticed you just made an edit to the relatively obscure article on Milo O'Shea. I edited that article yesterday as well. Were you wandering in my contribution tracks (I do that to others sometimes, although no one has ever mentioned that they noticed me) or is that just coincidence? Best wishes. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 13:11, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm fairly sure that Wikipedia guidelines indicate that one should avoid links in headings. Unfortunately I can't remember which guideline or where I read it. But I tend to remove them wherever I find them.

I was watching Duke of Normandy just because it covers a period of history that interests me. I was very impressed with your edits, and I clicked your contributions to see if we had anything else in common. I was a big fan of Milo O'Shea as a child, and I have a particular love of that particular version of Ulysses, hence the edit.
Regards,

Etiquette in Europe edit

Thanks for being understanding about my edits there. The tag I added actually isn't a lock, just a maintenance tag. I'm not an admin, so I don't have the power to lock the article or anything like that. I already went ahead and removed it since it looks like you've made headway – hope that's alright as well. Good work on Etiquette in Europe – I can see why it would take a while to put together now. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 01:20, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Old Timeyness edit

I must admit you are right about my article Old Timeyness. The concept of "Old Timeyness" is one I independentantly recognized. I know Wikipedia isn't the place for original research, but I doubt that no one else has recognized this phenominon besides myself. I am going to do some frantic web surfing and see if I can substantiate my observations. Thanks for the "nicely written" comment, and thanks for being a sharp Wikipundit. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 09:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Try moving it to "talk:nostalgia/old timeyness" or "talk:anachronism/old timeyness" and link to it from the parent talk page. That way you get it on Wikipedia and no one is likely to prod it. Or try calling it "Cultural references to the end of the nineteenth century". -- RHaworth 09:28, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

The article was recently moved to "Old Time". Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 04:28, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

B.A.A. edit

Thanks for moving all the BAA stuff out of the Boston Marathon page and onto the Boston Athletic Association. That really needed doing. I think the Marathon page itself is in need of some serious cleanup and organization, and that's a good first step. --Pjmorse 14:26, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Perkins Manor edit

Hi there. Thanks for the note and especially thanks for the interesting info about Perkins Manor and the people associated with it. I live in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, and had never heard of Perkins Manor, so it makes me want to go check it out! -- Ken Gallager 13:39, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

The Welds edit

I'd just like to thank you for your contributions to both the Weld Family article, and to that on Charles Goddard Weld which I originally wrote. Though I'm admittedly not normally one for American history, particularly local history, I became quite interested in the stories of certain prominent Bostonians & New Englanders during my time as an intern at the MFA. ... So, thanks again for your extensive work on such an interesting and oftoverlooked element of history. (Plus, it's always fun to meet another Bostonian here on the 'pedia!) LordAmeth 23:12, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you greatly LordAmeth; our paths have crossed a few times and probably will again. For example, I had just expanded the Japanese Maple article when you added the kanji. As you are a Nipponophile with a Boston connection, I wonder if you noticed my Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection article that is mentioned on the "Did you know?" section on the Wikipedia main page beneith your article? It might interest you. Thanks again and best wishes. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 23:50, 6 December 2006

Eine gebildete Frucht edit

A literate homosexual? Respectfully, I am impressed. I haven't been able to find two to rub together in Philadelphia. -FateSmiled&DestinyLaughed 22:57, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, but I am really nothing special in my hometown. The humorist Bret Harte is supposed to have said "In Boston it is impossible to fire off a revolver without hitting the author of a two-volume work." Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 18:29, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Boston edit

Good work on this article; could you just clarify the last paragraph under St. Andrew's Parish - it reads as if the school closed twice !?... From the references, was it the Catholic parish that closed in 2000?; if so, is the St. Andrew's church building still there? (You may see I've upgraded the link from St. Andrew's Church.) Thanks! -- Carbonix 12:04, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words and thanks for paying close attention. Yes, you caught a typo. The text now reads:

"St. Andrew's Church closed in 2000 although funeral masses are sometimes still held there. St. Andrew's School closed at the end of school year 2005."

Best wishes. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 22:18, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your input on the merging of Fenway-Kenmore and Kenmore square - You made some very good points and I will remove the merging. On a side note if you would like to assit I am looking for persons to join Project Boston in order to clean up and expand wikipedia articles directly related to Boston. Give it a thought. Markco1 05:11, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Sure, it would be a good idea for me to consolidate my efforts with those of others. For example, I did a lot of work on the Mission Hill article many weeks ago and it should probably be taken off the list of places that need work. If you glance at My User Page you'll see I have been pretty busy working on Greater Boston-related topics already. I am in the middle of an unrelated edit at the moment, but shortly I'll take a close look at the project page. Peace. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 05:27, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

I see that you already have your own personal Boston Project at your fingers but thanks for coming on board. I look fowards to working with you. Markco1 00:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

In regards to taking Forest Hills, Boston GA. I made a few comments on the page that I feel can be used to enhance the user experience on the page. Let me know what you think and if you would like me to jump in and help out. Markco1 17:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Unexpected ally? edit

Hi House - thanks for the note! It would be worth posting the Harvard & Smithsonian info on the WP:TOL talk page for others to see, too. I'd not give dingo a cap either, as it isn't a species, just a breed of domesticated dog* (same too for dog, either it is a generic term Canis species, or in most colloquial use, just a domesticated form of Gray Wolf Canis lupus, again, not a species). *Though I've not checked out what the people at Wikipedia:WikiProject Dog breeds do with caps or not for breed names . . . :-) - MPF 23:54, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

PS just reverted a vandal who blanked your page - MPF 23:54, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Bad Images edit

All the notices I've gotten about images without proper sources are archived at Bad Images. I'll try to provide valid tags for those images I can do so and won't upload any more questionable pictures. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 16:50, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Molasses disaster edit

HoS I just finished rebuilding Boston molasses disaster. I went to nominate this for GA and it turns out that if you work an article you cannot nominate it - Can you help me out Wikipedia:Good articles is where you go to start the process. As far as Forest Hills, Boston goes I am going refrain from working on it so I can nominate as soon as you think it is ready. CYA Markco1 13:28, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Lifestyle magazines edit

Hi House - OMG, you've got me there well and truly! I don't have a clue - I'm just not into that sort of thing at all (yes, I ought to get a life, I know!). Try posting a query on Wikipedia talk:UK Wikipedians' notice board, someone there is bound to know - MPF 22:55, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Cool. I thought you might end up referring me to someone who could fill me in. Thanks very much for your help; it's appreciated. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 23:11, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Etiquette in Europe edit

Hi, you reverted most of my changes to the Etiquette in Europe article, re-introducing something that is not really true (the fact that Italians do not like to discuss Roman Catholic Church scandals, in fact we do LOVE to discuss that...), and deleting most of the things I added. Is there a reason I cannot see to this? :) --Raistlin 22:50, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

OK, I re-added a large part of my former edits. Please feel free to polish the English (I'm not a native speaker) and to shorten or break up things as you like :) --Raistlin 18:26, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

My additions look much better after your edits :) good work! --Raistlin 09:49, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Deval Patrick edit

  • Why did you give me a vandalism warning regarding the Deval Patrick page? Hiberniantears 22:09, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Your edit that he was born into a "a wealthy African-American family residing in a 3 story tudor" is contrary to all published accounts and is apparently malfeasance. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 22:15, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  • One further point: I looked at the edit history of Deval Patrick and both you and I have been reverting some of the same vandalism over the past 24 hours. I think you meant to warn the IP Vandal which I last reverted, rather than me. My last revert on this page actually removed edits from an IP vandal that were half correct and half non-sense. The most recent edit by the same IP restored the legitimate background information, but did not include the non-sense information. Compare the last 4 edits, and you will see what I am refering to. We're on the same side... Thanks! Hiberniantears 22:20, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I rechecked the record before I answered your question and it did seem like you added the bad info. I'll add a notation to your user talk that my message was in error and remove it myself since technically you aren't supposed to remove a warning. Sorry for the confusion. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 22:25, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks for clearing my name! Hiberniantears 22:27, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Hey, House, there's nothing wrong with removing a warning you yourself mistakenly placed. I highly doubt anybody will call you on it ;-) Circeus 04:26, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Yeah, that was what I was saying...that I would remove the notation rather than make the recipient remove it. By the way, I've noticed you've made a few edits to some of my articles lately. Thanks, it's appreciated. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 04:29, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
  • No problem. I'll answer that what I've seen/vaguely heard of your work is nothing short of impressive, considering my current rather low level of contributions. Circeus 05:22, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Massachusetts edit

I've been going through your article creations (which are all quite good, although frequently needs some cleanup that I'm glad to provide), and I've noticed many, if not most of them fall within the realm of Wikipedia:WikiProject Massachusetts' scope, so I thought you might want to know for collaboration purpose. People at WikiProject Plants will also be glad to help with plant articles like Habenaria. Circeus 02:41, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Talking about this, I just noticed Massachusetts Route 130 could use work (compare Massachusetts Route 129). Circeus 02:46, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Lake Cochichewick edit

Thanks for your thanks and I must also thank you for creating the Lake Cochichewick article. In few days there will be another article created by me in DYK. Hope you will enjoy it ;). - Darwinek 21:23, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Alternative hip hop edit

Did you know that Wikipedia has a policy on reversing edits that are not vandalism? You can find this policy in section 1 and 2 of Wikipedia:Resolving Disputes.

You reversed an improvement that I made on Alternative hip hop. Please read the policy and either respond or change the article back. I'll change it back if I don't get a response.

Sallie Ann Glassman edit

Thank you for helping me to include Sallie Ann Glassman in Wikipedia.

She is certainly a person of great interest.

Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. MensKeperRa 09:39, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

  • My pleasure. I hope the differences between this article and the one that got deleted are useful as an example of how Wikiepdia works. Contributions/BostonBostonBoston 04:10, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Good plans edit

Well it was an uncalled for, childish, and surprising fracas all around. MPF aside, it would be good to get going on the maple articles, and we both had good points on improving the Acer negundo article. There's enough information on this scrappy little maple, and it has enough horticultural world-wide interest, that it's one article I'd like to see built up to FA status, with a proper show of how to use common names in botany articles, how to look at it internationally, the botany and the popular. Truce accepted--I'll even let you be the bigger party for offering it;) --KP Botany 19:09, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
