Daphna Lea Liel (Hebrew: דפנה לאה ליאל; born 30 May 1983) is an Israeli journalist who works as a Knesset reporter and a news presenter for the news company of Channel 12 (Israel).

Biography

Daphna Liel was born in 1983 in Jerusalem. She is the daughter of Dr. Alon Liel, an expert of Turkey, and Rachel Liel.

In her final year in high school, she was the chairmen of the Israel's National Student and Youth Council. As part of her role, she took part in debates in the Knesset about the Student Bill of Rights.[1]

She served in the IDF as a war correspondent and an editor in the Army Radio. After her release from the IDF, she worked as a political correspondent and a news anchor for four years at the Knesset Channel, In July 2008, she started to work as a breaking news reporter for the news company in Channel 2 (Israel), as well as a social correspondent in Jerusalem. Later she was appointed as an education correspondent. As an education correspondent she reported about the crowdedness in kindergartens in Israel. These reports led to the addition of another assistant to kindergartens.[2] Liel won an award for investigative journalism for these reports.[3]

In October 2015 she was appointed as a Knesset correspondent.[4]

Between March 2017 and October 2022 she hosted a podcast named The Making of Politics about politics.[5] In 2022 she published a book based on the podcast, also named The Making of Politics.[6]

Since 2018, Liel works as a news presenter in the show Shesh Im (Six with) and the show Pgosh at Haitonut (Meet the Press) in Channel 12.

Liel has a bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Relations from the Hebrew University.[7]

She is married to the biologist Dr. Yoav Bauman and they have two children. She lives in Herzliya.[8]
