Siphonodendron was a common colonial rugose ("wrinkled") coral of the Carboniferous period. In fossil form it now appears as a white or brownish mass of short spaghetti-like threads, usually more or less flattened during subsequent distortion of the embedding limestone. It is included in the sub-class Hexacorallia – corals with six-fold symmetry.
