The U.S. Women's Open is an annual golf competition held in early-July. It was established in 1946 and one of the four women's major championships played each year which include the Kraft Nabisco Championship , the LPGA Championship , and the Women's British Open .[1] This event has always been conducted in stroke play with the lone exception of the first competition in 1946, and is always the third women's major of the year.[1]
Betsy Rawls and Mickey Wright hold the record for the most victories with four, and Mickey Wright, Susie Berning , Hollis Stacy , Annika Sörenstam , Donna Caponi , Betsy King and Karrie Webb with two consecutive wins.[1] The lowest score for 72-holes is 16-under par by Juli Inkster in 1999, and the lowest aggregate is at 272 by Sörenstam in 1996 and Inkster in 1999.[1]
